Heart palpitations at 13 weeks pregnant? Worried.

For the past few days, whenever I'm resting I get heart palpitations every couple of minutes. I don't have any pain or light headedness but just a very frequent fluttering sensation.

I've never had it before and I'm a little worried but not sure whether I'm just being a hypochondriac or if its worth contacting the Dr. I'm 13 weeks pregnant and have been suffering from Hyperemesis since 6 weeks, so am taking antiemetics if that makes a difference.

Has anyone else had the same and is it a normal pregnancy symptom or something I should be concerned over? Thanks.

I got them at this stage and was given a blood test and it turned out I was anaemic so was put on a high dose of iron which did really help. It's always worth contacting a doctor with any health worries you have rather than worrying alone.

Hi there

people will tell you its normal however you need to get seen by a doctor and possibly in a&e. have you been getting dizziness or blackouts too? def get along and see someone if thats been happening.

i've just had all this too and i'm 18+1 however it turned out to be my normally underactive thyroid going overactive. have you got any metabolic conditions? i had an ecg in hospital which was normal but my bloods were way out.

hope you're ok - it is probably just your body ramping up to deal with your baby but always better to be 100% sure.

I have this due to low iron, which is easily sorted and nothing to worry about, but do tell your midwife or GP so they can rule out anything else.

I had similar - turned out I had a pregnancy related heart murmur. The extra volume of blood in pregnancy can give you various problems, so it's always best to get checked out.

Thanks, I think I'll contact my midwife and see if I can get checked out. I've had problems with anemia before pregnancy and can't imagine I'm taking in a lot of iron at the mo due to my awful eating habits ( down to sickness!) Hopefully it's something nice and simple like that. Thanks for the replies. x

Just a thought but what is your caffeine intake like? I drank very little, but would habitually make my morning coffee after getting into work, and those few sips (I never drank a full cup) were enough to give me palpitations. They stopped as soon as I switched to decaf.

As others have said, best get it checked out though, as you could be anemic.

Hi, I am pregnant with my 4th, my 1st and 2nd I didn't have any heart problems but my 3rd I had palpitations and tachycardia I was very ill, couldn't walk far with out feeling out of breath and dizzy and my heart hammering in my chest. I was anaemia but even after it was treated it didn't make a great deal of difference. A cardiologist didn't even know what was causing it. I was put on low dose beta blockers towards the end of my pregnancy which made a massive difference. I was also delivered early via csec.
On the plus it settled down after my son was born, unfortunately it has made an early appearance in this one so will prob be on meds a whole lot earlier.
Don't freak out to much as I am sure its prob just hormones and if it doesn't ask for a 24hr ecg because they show all activity over 24hr where as an ecg just captures a few seconds and if u aren't having them at the time it won't be seen.
Hooe u feel better soon xxx
