My waters have gone today. Been admitted to hospital and had antibiotics and steroid injection. My cervix is closed and I do not have any pains. Does anyone have experience of this. Scared and anxious.

Thank you for your support. It's a long night when you can't sleepSad

Hi it is indeed isn't it?

I had a different experience but I had my second daughter at 32 weeks, there are lots of people on here with early babies and at 31 weeks although he or she would need help and be very little, everything is in their favour.

Especially if you have had the steroids, that's a huge help.

The best thing you can do is try to rest for the moment, and don't be scared of asking the doctors and the midwives anything at all, I originally went into labour at 29 weeks and they showed us round the SCBU, told us everything that might happen if she did arrive early, and it was very reassuring.

Flowers for you.

Thanks rhondajean. I am having a scan today so will know more after. Had 2 hours sleep. It's rubbish.

I know it's a bit later, but the same thing happened to me at 34 weeks. I also had the steroid injection etc. My DD was 6lb 3oz, which is a hefty old size for a 34 weeker, and is now a totally mental 2yo.

I know 31 weeks is a bit earlier but SCBU units are amazing and well used to dealing with early babies - not to mention scared, tired and emotional mummies! They know what they're doing, so you're in the right place.

It's a scary time, but as others have said, there's loads of people on here with 31 weekers (and earlier). Do ask your midwives and nurses anything you want and do ask MNers, too. When we were inSCBU and I was panicking about feeding, MN was an amazing source of support and info from mums who had been there, done that and got the SCBU t-shirt!!

Best wishes to you xx

I hope your scan went well. Do they think all your waters have gone? They may be able to replenish if they haven't all gone. The important thing is that you've had the steroids and the antibs and you're in the right place.

NorthernLurker · 03/06/2013 08:08

Sorry that should be 'goes well' for the scan.

CelticPromise · 03/06/2013 08:50

Good luck for your scan. A 31 weeker with steroids on board has a great chance of doing well. While you are playing the waiting game in hospital see if someone can show you around SCBU so you know what to expect. You can also start reading up on expressing milk etc if you want to be prepared.

Will be thinking of you. Just about to take my 27 weeker to nursery Smile

This happened to a friend of mine, her waters broke at 28+5. They kept her under strict observation and baby stayed in until 31 weeks. He was small and it was a struggle but they got there and have a bouncing 18 month old now. If you have had the steroids etc there is every chance that everything will be fine. You are in the right place.

plentyofsoap · 03/06/2013 09:08

hi, it happened to me also and it is scary. Hope the scan went well. I had the steriod injections and went into labour quickly after my waters broke. He was fine after the scary start! It is early but the risks are still very low.

NoForkNKnife · 03/06/2013 09:16

Didn't go into labour, but I have a 29 weeker. Had steroids and after a few hours on a ventilator and a couple of days on CPAP was breathing on her own.
She was 2lbs though. But thankfully no other interventions.

She's currently snoozing besides me. Her due date was a couple of weeks ago.

I found the week leading up to her delivery the hardest. I know how you're feeling right now. It was the 'not knowing' what teu were going to find when she was born. After she arrived, it was a relief. Hard, but I found easier to cope.

The scan will give you some reassurance. And 31 weeks isnt that early anymore. The 31 weekers on the ward with me went home way before we did. Some as quick as 3 weeks.

Good luck, and in a couple of months time, all this will be a memory and you'll be enjoying your little baby at home. Take care x

Christelle2207 · 03/06/2013 10:56

Good luck. I am also 31 weeks and thought I was going into labour the other day but luckily was a false alarm but I know it's scary. It's really good news that you've had time to have the steroids but hopefully baby will stay put for a little while longer -every day will count. But these days 31 weeks isn't that early and baby will be small but fine.
I hope someone at the hospital can reassure you. Kick up a fuss if not .

Sorry I couldn't update yesterday. Battery was dead. I've had my scan, although I have lost a lot of water. There are still pockets of water so they are not too worried. I can go home today but need to come back every few days for monitoring. Thanks for your support. Grin

Good news. I hope your baby stays put for a while yet. Trust your instincts and go back if you are worried at all. Best of luck Smile

NorthernLurker · 04/06/2013 19:16

That sounds positive and if baby does come early you've had the steroids and that will be an excellent help.

pocketandsweet · 04/06/2013 19:53

All the best good luck timepasses ... As has been mentioned having the steroids is very good. I had two early babies (one who tried coming at 26 weeks but stayed put until 34 in the end). Every extra day inside is a bonus.
