If your wearing a nursing vest top do you need to wear a nursing bra? Or do they have sufficient support in them? Can anyone recommend a good nursing vest top or will a normal cheapy (primark) top do? First baby and need to sort out my hospital bag as I'm 35weeks now an not got round to doing it yet oops!! I love the Emma Jane nursing tops and found I didn't need a bra with them.

Hi OP, I waited until my milk came in before I forked out a fortune for nursing bras. They are expensive, and your boobs get bigger once your milk arrives (probably 3-4 days afterwards). I did try to buy some before I had my first born but the shop assistants told me not to bother.

I think you can get some nursing vests with support in although they aren't cheap either. To be honest, in the hospital I just used a button nightie. I wasnt moving around much and pretty much in the bed/chair most of the time.

Surely it depends how big your boobs are? If you can get away with wearing a vest top with 'shelf support' usually then you probably still can... if not then no.

Great question OP... lurking for answers (waves clueless first-timer flag)

Stepmooster - stupid question, but how did you manage to get to a shop at 3-4 days post-birth to get a bra? I'm being led to believe that it's normal to be pratically housbound for at least a week after birth!
