Yesterday was long day. In and out of car and lots of walking miles. By 6pm I hurt everywhere. We had 1 more shop to go to. Dh has a 2 door car with really heavy doors. I have to open them with my foot and heave myself out(glamorous! )
So... could we have parked in nice big space right outside doors? ? (We didn't as i couldn't decide if it was okay or not)

I think most supermarkets allow you to do this. it's their rules really, not ours, you need to consult.

SugarandSpice126 · 02/06/2013 13:26

I don't think so because you're not a parent with children with you.. My assumption is that those spaces are for parents with young children who might run around/need the extra space for safety of the children. I know you must be feeling really rough, but I think you might have to grin and bear it! Can't DP help you out of the car?

lljkk · 02/06/2013 13:28

Why not have your DH drop you, park elsewhere, and catch up with you inside? Even better, he can go shopping without you while you put feet up at home. :)

Timeforabiscuit · 02/06/2013 13:35

You're a parent, use the space - neighbouring cars will thank you

invicta · 02/06/2013 13:36

I wouldn't have a problem with this. I can recall how difficult movement can be towards the end of my pregnancy, so parking near a shop would be a good idea.

VashtaNerada · 02/06/2013 13:38

Depends on the supermarket as to whether you're "officially" allowed to, but I see those spaces as being for anyone who's struggling, whether that's because you're alvery young children or late pregnancy wouldn't bother me at all. As for those who park there for no reason... Angry

VashtaNerada · 02/06/2013 13:38

Posted early but was trying to say if you're al

VashtaNerada · 02/06/2013 13:39

Giving up. Stupid phone. (Alone with very young children. Done it!)

SirChenjin · 02/06/2013 13:40

Couldn't your DH drop you off at the entrance, park the car and then do the reverse at the end of the shopping trip?

neversleepagain · 02/06/2013 13:43

I never used a parent bay until my twins were actually born. By 34 weeks I measured 42 weeks and I struggled to do pretty much everything. DP would drop me at the entrances and he would park the car. If I was on my own, I would walk.

There are just not enough parent bay parking spaces. I often have to struggle getting my twins and double buggy out the car in single spaces and I loath it!

OneLittleToddleTerror · 02/06/2013 13:47

Sorry. This goes in the same category as the elderlies who use the parent car parks. Get your DH to drop you off in front of the shop. If you are complaining now, try taking an infant carseat out of the car on your own at 7 weeks time. The seat plus baby weighs a ton, and it gets worse when the baby gets older. I have struggled so many times trying to take the damn thing out when I can just squeeze my butt between the cars. You are only 33 weeks.

PollyPlummer · 02/06/2013 13:53

I think you would should have used it. I honestly wouldn't mind if we couldn't use a parent parking space and saw a heavily pregnant woman using one instead. Most of the people who park in them round our way dont have children anyway so I am used to getting dts in and out.

OddBoots · 02/06/2013 13:58

I often longed to when I was pregnant and my pelvis was giving up on me but never felt the need when my children were born (I used a sling so the car seat stayed in the car) so I feel for you. I'd not say you are unreasonable but I never dared as anyone having a go would have had me in tears at that stage.

rosiedays · 02/06/2013 13:58

Dh will happily drop me out aide and often has to help me out of the car! I was really just wondering one little i had 2 baby's long before the invitation of parent parking!!! * also have my own 4 door car which I will use mostly for baby. Dh just loves his little sports car.

For what it's worth, my dh was rarely about to drop me off, it's not something everyone has.

worsestershiresauce · 02/06/2013 14:06

I always thought those parking spaces were about the need for extra space to the side of the car, for getting small children in and out of car seats. On that basis I'd be absolutely fine with someone using them with pregnant.

Towards the end of pregnancy there were times when I couldn't open the door wide enough to get in or out. This was fine when I wasn't driving as I could be dropped off before the car was parked. Had I been the driver and returned to the car to find someone had parked too close I would have been completely marooned. It stopped me driving into town by myself.

Any parent who'd rather leave a pregnant woman stranded over such a petty issue is frankly rude.

BabyHMummy · 02/06/2013 15:03

Hehe I have wondered the same. Pgp and having to open the door as wide as poss has had me contemplating it. Haven't had the guts yet but may do as it gets closer. I think Tesco do a pass thingy via theirbaby club for the car to allow u...seem to recall reading it on their website but I may be wrong

tinkerbell666 · 02/06/2013 17:14

See, having a 2 year old and one year old, and being pg i'd be a bit annoyed seeing someone without kids use the space, the point of them is so you can get a trolley/pram near the car and get kids safely in and out, without parking your trolley on the road part and not being able to open the door wide enough to get them in the car seat !

BabsAndTheRu · 02/06/2013 17:17

The parent and child spaces are supposed to be for expectant mothers as well. I always used them as couldn't get out the car other wise. 5ft 1 with huge bump.

meglet · 02/06/2013 17:22

Yanbu. You need to be able to open your doors wide when you have a big bump.

PirateMonkey · 02/06/2013 17:23

I wouldn't have a problem with a heavily pregnant woman using parent parking at all. She is carrying a baby after all and should do what she feels is safe and comfortable. I got pretty annoyed at a cab driver last week though as he unashamedly pulled into a parent car bay. He didn't even have car seats )-:

rosiedays · 02/06/2013 18:48

Thanks ladies. It is the fear of being set upon by another mother that stopped me. Really not up for a car park slanging match.

lollypopsicle · 02/06/2013 18:51

Yanbu.

Blobby11 · 02/06/2013 19:53

YANBU Incidentally neither are "elderlies" as one poster thinks. If disabled is full then of course blue badge holders should be able to use the parent and child bays.

OP I'm afraid you might get set upon though as there are some mothers who tend to think the world revolves around them and their precious bundles Wink but just smile sweetly and walk (or maybe waddle Smile off.

Yika · 02/06/2013 19:59

YANBU. Oddly enough my local supermarket here in Belgium has one reserved space for pregnant women but no P&C parking!
