Hi everyone out there. I am 36 weeks prg with my first DS.

I am planning to get a cot bed from last 2 weeks but till now not able to decide what to do Confused . I dont want to invest very much as after 1 or 2 years we need to settle in another country but as well as not want to compromise my baby's comforts also.

  1. I first wanted a bedside cot so that at nights I need not to get up from bed for night time feeds. but They were quite expensive and did not have much space(as around 50cm/90cm) when baby start to roll.
  1. Then I thought of getting like simple cots with one side removable which i can use like bed side cot as Ikea's www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00118815/
but product says one side removable when baby is big enough.. Not as newborn(what I expected) for night feeds. Can I use it as bed side cot? Or I need to get up at nights for baby feeds.
  1. As if I need to get up at nights Hmm why not this option which lastly I saw travel cot on mothercare
www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Bassinette-Travel-Cot/393527,default,pd.html which can be adjusted to 2 levels and We can take it with us when we travel out of country. But I am not sure how much comfortable it will be, to use travel cot as regular cot?

ohhhh.. God I am totally confused......... dont know what to do? Confused
Please someone give me some direction.. Sad

a travel cot is not comfy enough for evryday.

a proper cot is too big for a newborn really.

what i would do if i was you is buy a moses basket or cradle type affair. this will last for about 5/6 months.

then buy a cot second hand and get a new mattress. look at this one
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mothercare-bedside-cot-with-removable-side-used-/190847056168?pt=UK_Baby_Nursery_Furniture_ET&hash=item2c6f5ef928

if you are sure you won'tbe taking the cot with you when you move then it doesn't matter if not as spacious as a bigger cot. You can buy something bigger when you movve.

i agree, a travel cot really isn't comfy enough for everyday, neither for baby nor for you as you have to bend aaaaaaall the way to the floor to pick baby up. and, what's more important imo, put baby down when asleep without waking - impossible!

we went for a proper cotbed that also converts to a toddler bed. so its got 4 sides, 2 of them come off to make a proper bed and the matress height can be adjusted. tbf, in newborn DS did look a bit lost but it was v handy for night-time bfing as i spent entire nights with my upper body in his bed and my legs in mine. it also meant we didn't have to spend money on something that would have been outgrown within a matter of months. and gumtree is your friend if you're on a budget Smile

Hi I'm in similar situation. I got a lovely second hand full size Co sleeper cot , which you can use next to bed and as stand alone cot, a new mattress and a moses basket for when she is very little and day time naps. Will become toy holder once she has grown out of it. Hope that helps.

I heard that the NCT rents out bedside cots-£99 for six months including a new mattress. Worth looking into? I'm going to check it out!

Thanks for replys ..... but still not finding the correct cot and confused Confused ......... can anyone tell that the drop side cots.. can be used as bedside cots, (Like drop side is fully removed to keep it bed side) or it will collapse without fourth side?
MoreSnowPlease I could not understand fully how you use it.. is it allows to remove one side on mattress top position.. Hmm

we've got one drop side cot and one "standard" one (i.e. all four sides are supposed to be on) but use them both as bedside cots with one side fully removed. they're both sturdy as anything even though toddler DC1 tries really hard to make them collapse every single day. Grin

HTH!

I'm getting the mothercare darlington cot as its very reasonable and has a dropside rather than a removable side. I'm hoping to be able to have this next to the bed once baby is out of her Moses basket.

By the way we have quite a high bed so will just have it next to the bed with the side dropped down not removed.

I really recommend a bedside cot and got mine 2 nd hand off e bay and got a new mattress. I still had to stuff some blankets down the edge of my bed and then a sheet over both to marry the cot and bed together. I found the ease , after a couple of weeks establishing latch, of rolling over and flinging my boob into the bedside cot made my life so so much easier. I barely sat up for a night feed beyong the first 6 weeks. If you can find a cot that will let you do this, it should work. You could buy a proper matress for a travel cot but theyare very deep to lean to and not half as convenient.

I am getting a bassinet travel cot from John Lewis which means no real bending for naps during the day in the Lounge. We will be having a cotbed in our bedroom with one side down next to our bed. We will use the travel cot a lot as my mum and MIL will be looking after the baby after I go back to work so it will have somewhere to sleep without having to buy two cots!
