I had to drink lucozade. Here is a link of what happens at my local hospital.

LittleBallOfFur · 01/06/2013 23:19

I took lucozade with me to have but the nurse told me the syrup stuff they had was better - she LIED. Have the lucozade.

CitrusyOne · 01/06/2013 23:23

Yep, 'twas lucozade here too. But lukewarm.

Glucose drink at my hospital - syrupy sweet sticky clear drink. Crazy sweet but not un drinkable. I failed the test and have GD :-(

Longfufu · 02/06/2013 07:19

With my first is was a flat orange sugary drink, which wasn't entirely pleasent. With my second it was a fizzy orange drink, a bit like lucazade original, which wasn't so bad.

Just drink it quickly.

I'm due my test next month and have been told I have to take my own original lucozade with me to drink (have to measure it out though not drink whole bottle)

Mine was a glucose drink that was like flat rola cola! I got my results through the post about a week or two later, if they need to see u again they will can you within a few days x

TinkyPeet · 02/06/2013 23:36

Call* and then you are referred to the gd nurse/mw and I think they go through a diet plan with you
, but I'm not sure x

Chances are you don't have gd, but if you do then you will see a diabetes specialist midwife at the hospital. They will show you how to do a finger prick test to test your blood sugar levels. They will tell you when to test (usually several times a day) and how to eat to keep your blood sugars the right level. If you can't keep the levels right even with a healthy diet they can give you a tablet called metformin which can help. If that doesn't work, you can inject insulin.

Although GD is annoying, it is treatable and if well controlled there is no negative impact on baby or mother (unlike pre-e etc).

But think positive, most don't get it. Of those who do, most can control it with diet alone.

Also, in terms of time I failed the gtt and had they phoned me later the same day and I had an appt with the specialist midwife later that same week.
