Advice.. Preg with twins (23w), short cervix, stitch booked for Tues

That's it really! Just had a scan at 23 weeks (first after my 20w scan). I'm preg with DCDA twins and agreed to the internal scan to measure cervix length. It's quite short. 25mm is the bottom of the "safe" range for twins (15mm for singletons) - mine is 21mm, so fine for DD (my first) as she was a singleton, but I'm high risk of early labour.

Headlong chars with my consultant and I'm booked in for a stitch on Tues (general anaesthetic probably). The risk is that the stitch itself provokes early labour, but the potential benefit is not going into early labour.... I really pushed and said what would he do in my shoes. He said have the procedure. I have faith in him, but.... A hard choice as a short cervix doesn't automatically mean early labour.

Any thoughts or advice or experience? Obviously I hope all goes well and I make it all the way to 38 weeks....

Hi there. Still on bed rest and decided to take two weeks off work, the first week on total bed rest... So far so good. Bleeding stopped the next morning after the stitch and I am back in for rescanning etc on Weds.... Not looking forward to it as my cervix is so bloody awkwardly positioned they have to have a real rummage....

How is the rest of the short cervix club doing?!

Hi legallyblond, just saw this post and thought I'd say hi. I'm another member of the short cervix club and now 24 weeks (had stitch in at 15 weeks after cervix was 2.3cm...they advised anything under 2.5 needed a stitch, although seems to be very inconsistent across the NHS!)

Pleased the stitch is in ok and you're now taking it easy. Twins must be so exciting but so stressful to have to worry about this too!

Everything has been fine for me since the stitch (touch wood) and I've got more confident and am pretty much living as normal now...pregnancy yoga, walking the dogtwice a day etc. Aalthough the lack of sex is very depressing! Hopefully for you things will get back to normal a little more soon and you can relax a bit about it.

Checking in with the other short cervix club members too, Kelly, Alexandra, diege (sp?) Hope you're doing ok!

Piz

Hi legally hi piz, glad you 'stitchers' are doing well! I've managed to relax a bit and am not as scared to move around as I was! Still no stitch, I get rescanned the week after next and then if all measuring ok, I'll go on holiday for two weeks and get scanned again when I get back.

The whole thing does seem really inconsistent piz and that is worrying - consistent in terms of minimum measurements and how reliable the scans are for measurements, plus each consultant's opinion. I'm looking forward to my next scans to see if they think it's looking ok though.

Just had a lovely baby shower for one of my best friends and was nice to relax and enjoy being pregnant, doing my best not to stress about the cervix stuff Smile

Feeling less positive today... Had quite a bit (not enough to soak a pad) of brown blood today, after no bleeding since the morning after the op (Tues afternoon). Called labour ward and they said go in if any change at all (even if still brown, but heavier), any pain or "tightenings". Nothing, I think.....

No experience of any of this but i didnt want to read and scarper, no advice, but didnt want you to feel alone. Im sure everything will be fine xx

legally I bet you're so anxious, big hugs, I keep hearing brown blood is usually better than red in pregnancy because it's old blood - I'm presuming from the stitch going in? So could just mean your body's healed and clearing out the old blood. I would call first thing tomorrow to be on the safe side, am sure you will anyway. Take it really easy and stay off your feet as much as poss xx

I think / hope it was just because I was up for the longest period I've been up this morning since the op (had to do breakfast etc for DD as DH, although a stay at home dad, does weekend sports coaching) - I don't think it had had a chance to come out before now what with me being in bed! Nothing since, so that's good!

Hello short cervix club! So happy to hear these positive stories, legally blond I'm sure like Alexandra said its old blood. I had a little of this just after my stitch.

I'm now 23 weeks, lots of baby kicks, regular Braxton hicks but nothing to worry about i'm told ( yeah right!) am also still on the progesterone pessaries.

Working full time is pretty exhausting but I think that's to be expected during pregnancy from what I hear on mn. I'm doing my best to get my feet up when home from work and at weekends.

24 week scan next week so will update with any cervix news!

Best of luck all :)

I def think that's it, old blood clearing out as you were on your feet more. Take care, let me know how you get on
