Way TMI on this one I'm afraid - I've had awful pain around the outside of my foofoo (like someone's given me a kicking down there)The midwife has said it's caused by varicose veins and will probably get worse during pregnancy. I'm almost 18 weeks and a bit daunted by having to put up with this for months to come.
Has anyone else suffered with this and have you found anything to ease the pain at all? (Hoping/praying for a miracle cure!)

hi I have really bad veins down there, Im now 38 weeks, some days are awful others I forget they are there. I got a support band for my belly which holds baby up so lessens pressure. good luck and all will be worth it in end

Hi looloo sorry to hear you're suffering from the same thing, not long now for you, good luck with the birth.
I'll have a look into getting a support band, thanks for the advice.
I know I'll forget it all when I get to hold the baby, nice to know I'm not suffering alone though!

Same thing here too I'm afraid as well as really bad veins on the legs. The mw hasn't really come up with any suggestions apart from the grin and bear it approach.

I too have a belly band, although the mw dismissed it would help as she said it's the internal pressure which causes them. You can also eat something called a v2 prenal cradle ( looks rather fetching, but it may help).
I try to be fairly active without standing for long periods of time, putting my legs up a wall ( bottom on the floor) to allow the blood to drain. This provides some temporary relief.
Some people also recommend wearing a big fat maternity pad to give some extra support.
I also looked in to some homeopathic medecines but couldn't get the one I needed through health food shop and was too tight to pay to see a practitioner.
Good news is that things should settle down after birth (thank heavens).

I didn't know varicose veins down there were possible. Sounds horrible, poor you! Sad

getoffthecoffeetable · 30/05/2013 20:16

You're certainly not wrong about standing for long periods making it worse. I went out yesterday with DS and was on my feet all day, could barely move after I'd finally sat down for five mins!
Sorry to hear you're also suffering. I'll look into your suggestions.
I'm now giving your legs in the air approach a go that's what got me in this state in the first place!

hi getoffthecoffeetable! i could have written this post. i have exactly the same problem and it seems that it's affecting a lot more of us than i thought. im currently expecting dc3 and coming up to 17 weeks but had the VV down there right from the begining but only started hurting from about week 13. for some reason it's not too bad right now but it could be down to the rainy weather and that we were more stuck in the house. im just getting my energy back after the awful morning sickness and i think it's going to get worse again running after 2 toddlers. so just wanted to say i can feel your pain and i will definitely give the bump support a try as my belly is already huge.
Good luck and not too much pain x

I never found anything that took the pain away, but it goes away soon as baby comes :)
