Early Pregnancy Tummy Issues

So I found I was pregnant with DC3 late last week and although a little scared of the mayhem (will have 3 under 4) we are very happy.

The last 48 hours though I have developed severe diarrhoea - 2/3 times an hour. I am keeping hydrated and suffered with this with DD2 but not to this level.

Has anyone else had this as a symptom please? Is there anything I can take? Thank you.

Hey. I'm currently waiting to see if I'm having a MC unfortunately - but don't let that scare you; I'm sure it's not related - but I had diarrhoea just after the time I believe I conceived, and I had it again last night and into today. I've read a lot of stuff on the internet that says it's coming in early pregnancy, so I wouldn't worry too much, but make sure you try and keep dehydrated - frequent small amounts of water and also some fruit juice (current NHS advice). Try to eat starchy foods like pasta and avoid anything too fatty. Soup is also good.

Hope you feel better soon! x

If it persists see the doc as there is nothing over the counter other than rehydration sachets - which might be an idea.

Hi nancy I had it quite mildly with DS on and off and am currently 16w and had a very bad attack of it a few weeks ago, was very poorly and had some very painful and scary cramps but everything was fine and GP/MW said its quite common....was advised to go nil by mouth for as long as I could (but at least 24hrs) and drink dioralyte after every episode...it lasted abt 3 days at the worst level and then another two at a more manageable one....hope it clears up for you soon Smile And congrats btw Grin

Thank you all for replying. I really appreciate itSmile

Raraz - I'm so sorry you having to go through a difficult time and I hope things get easier.

Shellshock - thanks for the reassurance Grin I'm hoping it will pass really soon as its terribly draining and sleep is disturbed too. I hope it stays away for you - I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I am going to try the nil by mouth and dirolyte method!! Thank you x

I had it in both my pregnancies, apparently early pregnancy hormones make some people's digestive system go into overdrive causing diarrhoea, it's less common than constipation but reasonably normal :)

Thanks Rockchick!! Good to know - have had a terrible night as up every hour with it. I'm hoping it calms down soonHmm

I think diarrhoea was my version of morning sickness. It didn't last too long and to be honest I preferred it to chucking up! 35 weeks now so all was well.

NancyOsbourne · 29/05/2013 17:20

That's exactly how I feel!! It's slowed slightly today but still frequent and I feel very drained - I can't seem to find much about it all really. The other two DC's being fully energetic is tiring enoughGrin
