Combined test results

Just got combined test results back, and I'm a bit confused.

There are two numbers there - age related risk at term, which is 1 in 1200, and individual risk at term, which is 1 in 250. At the end it says low risk.

Does anyone know the difference between these two?

The age one is a general one for anyone your age. I'm guessing you are under 30?
The individual is your own risk based on your bloods and measurements. The numbers you have are showing that your measurements have brought your risk right up but you are still within what is classed low risk. It can be quite nerve racking!
My age related one was 1 in 150 (as I'm an ancient 39 yeah old) and my individual one 1 in 37000 so exactly the opposite of what's happened to you.
Can you ask for more tests?

More tests would mean CVS or amnio, wouldn't it?

Oh god, I'm so worried now... 250 is quite high for my age isn't it? I'm 27. I don't know what to do...

It's a tough one. The risks are still considered low but I can understand the worry. Sorry I didn't mean to cause you any trouble!
I've heard there is a harmony test you can do but it costs about 800 quid I think.
However the sensible me says the NHS says that is a low risk and you should not worry too much Grin

Sensible me also is saying I shouldn't worry - it's still low risk. But it's in my head now...

I've read that cut off risk is 1:150, but that was revised about 2 years ago. Before that it was 1:250... Obviously they did revise it for a reason - too many false positivesi guess, but I can't stop thinking had I been pregnant two years ago with the same results, I would have been offered further tests!

Anyway, I'll give a call to midwife tomorrow. I've read there is another blood test they can do at 16 weeks, so I'll ask if I can have that. If it comes back with odds being smaller, it will put my mind at ease...

I thought I would update on this.

Called the midwife, they were less than useless. Basically said if it it's below 1:150 it's low risk and that's it. They can't do any further blood tests for me...

The only comforting thing is that I've calmed down about it already anyway, telling myself that it's still low risk (less than 0.4% chance!) and everything will be fine, so it didn't upset me that much. Just peed off a bit at their uselessness and bureaucracy...

I hope everyone else gets nice low risk results, and have a nice weekend ladies Flowers

CuteLittleToes just wanted to say i completely understand where you are coming from although no experience with getting low numbers just the fact that we were told there is a possiblilty of downs due to possible soft marker last time around and i remember even when i was 30+ weeks i was still thinking about the amnio even tho it would not have made any difference by then.
just read a thread where one was given 1:10 and had amnio and it was all clear and there are so many of the same cases out there and they really were very high risk so just try and and focus on those and hope you feel a bit more comfortable about it and enjoy your pregnancy x
