...after LadyTH's thread, I thought we should cheer ourselves up.

My candidates:

-people randomly smiling at you on the street more
-being forced to eat icecream a lot (did you know it contains a type of calcium that can't be absorbed any other way? that's what I tell people anyway)
-chatting to dd about the baby's name and letting her feel him kick

so there. who needs sleep anyway?

Love everything except the thing where no bugger offers help when you're feeling shite....like I have today for example.
Dh asked what I was doing today and as I felt like shite I said "nothing, i feel awful"
The look of horror on his face made me want to ripe him limb from limb.

I love being PG.
Love having strangers ask about the baby.
Love people touching my bump.
Love it all.

bijou · 23/05/2006 19:07

How nice to hear such positive stuff when you feel so nausious. I'm only at 8 weeks so no street smiles yet, however cheese and chutney sandwiches are now fabbo.

booge · 23/05/2006 19:29

Feeling baby kick, splashing out on summer maternity clothes (ds was winter baby)
Having your scan (today) and finding out everything is ok and that it is going to be a dd Grin

SenoraPostrophe · 23/05/2006 19:47

oh booge, congratulations!

It's really good to have one of each. the spanish call them "una pareja" (a pair) and I've been told on many occasions that in Spain every woman wants one.

(mind you, if it turns out he was hiding his bits between his legs, two boys are good too! my next is another boy)

Tits. My first experience of having a right nice pair.
Random strangers going all gooey as they think about when they were pg/had a baby etc.

Whoever said the thing about not having to hold your tummy in - my god yes.

Gemmitygem · 24/05/2006 04:14

agree with others:

tits (amazed admiration of DH who didn't expect them to grow by twice the size)

not holding tummy in

people being kind to you and not letting you carry things, etc.

feeling all fertile and earth-mothery

imaginary conversations with future child!

Those hangover-free Sunday mornings

excuse to get out of doing ANYTHING you don't want to do

excuse to be super healthy and end up feeling a lot better

wondering what baby will be like...

DogMum · 24/05/2006 08:50

After nearly forty years of NOT being pregnant, it's finally me! And I feel so privileged and special and excited. (Now I'm over feeling knackered all the time and sick.)

2Happy · 24/05/2006 08:58

It doesn't matter where you are, you're never alone because you've got a tiny little person right inside of you Smile

Pinchypants · 24/05/2006 11:11

Two years of trying and sadness being over.
Relaxing about body shape and tummy for the first time ever.
Learning to give in and stop/sleep when I need to.
Eating anything I want with no guilt, but strangely not being drawn to too much junk food after sickness stopped.
Meeting our baby this August - cannot wait!

booge · 24/05/2006 12:58

Thank you SenoraPostrophe! We're very excited at the prospect of our "una pareja" even though everyone keeps telling me girls are more difficult...[worried]

FrannyandZooey · 24/05/2006 13:03

Fantastic hair
Fantastic skin
Fantastic breasts
Having the horn 24 hours a day
Sitting down in the middle of the street and saying "I am not moving another step until you bring me vast amounts of food now. QUICKER THAN THAT."

Happy days :)

SenoraPostrophe · 24/05/2006 14:24

god, girls are a doddle compared to boys if mine are anything to go by. I was secretly hoping for another girl on that basis, although obviously it doesn't really matter in the scheme of things.

Another thing I like: not having to wash hair very often!

The only good thing IMO is having a child at the end.

It's a cleverly designed process which over the course of 40 weeks gets you used to being less mobile and less attractive.

Sakura · 24/05/2006 16:40

Haha, robin, thats so true!
I have to say, I love the attention, and getting to do what I want because Im pregnant. Like, if I dont feel like seeing my MIL, I feel its totally within my right, because this is MY time Smile
Also, I agree about being relaxed about my body for the first time EVER.
Why is the bump such a magnet for anyone and everyone- the check out lady was rubbing it the other day. I don`t mind though.

beansontoast · 24/05/2006 16:47

DITTO F&Z....LOL

Fantastic hair
Fantastic skin
Fantastic breasts
Having the horn 24 hours a day
Sitting down in the middle of the street and saying "I am not moving another step until you bring me vast amounts of food now. QUICKER THAN THAT."

foxinsocks · 24/05/2006 16:48

not having periods

dublindee · 24/05/2006 17:13

No periods
Chatting to bump (even when you don't have bump properly - still just fat!)
Hearing the heartbeat for the first time
Feeling the baby kick for the first time
Holding the baby
The first look you and dp/dh share when baby is born

OK IS IT DECEMBER YET??????? WHERE'S MY NEW BABY!!!!

Have dating scan booked so am all broody and this thread is making me worse!

scienceteacher · 24/05/2006 17:46

...never waking up with a hangover

Elibean · 24/05/2006 18:43

Extraordinary dreams I don't feel remotely guilty about Blush
Not being tempted to buy more clothes, as I know I won't fit into them for 18 months.
Feeling amazed and lucky and not having the rawness of wanting to be a Mum and not being, anymore (first pregnancy, mostly).
Not having to shave my legs, or hardly - is this normal?!
Carrying a whole, mysterious, potential little human inside me.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 24/05/2006 18:44

The birth! I lvoed being in labour and giving birth, pregnancy is NOT my forte!

Kathy1972 · 25/05/2006 14:17

Gosh JARM, did you have a painless birth or did you enjoy the agony? Wink

TuttiFrutti · 25/05/2006 18:09

Blimey JARM - were you on hard drugs at the time???! I'm the opposite of you: loved being pregnant and hated the birth.

Esmummy · 25/05/2006 18:11

Maternity Leave

kate100 · 25/05/2006 18:24

Feeling very close to DH, especially at the beginning when it's a great secret that only the 2 of us knew

Great hair and skin

Feeling the baby kick

Never being alone

No periods

Labour and delivery, because it's nearly over and I'd soon be meeting my baby, like JARM, pregnancy not my forte!!
