Can reflexology induce labour?

I am getting slightly concerned that I will need another emergency induction and so would like to go into labour asap. Basically I had severe pre-eclampsia last time round and was delivered at 38wks. Im 39+1 today and my blood pressure has started to creep up. Im due to have it checked again on Friday and then see the consultant next week if there is no immediate concern. However if I could spontaneously go into labour fairly soon it would stop a great deal of worry and probably keep my blood pressure down!
Has anyone tried reflexology and had good results? I've booked myself an hours session on Friday afternoon and am hoping it will at least relax me if nothing else!

It didn't work for me!

I am a qualified reflexologist and to my knowledge I've never sent anyone into labour, either.

But it'll be a lovely, relaxing treat :)

Fair enough, I am quite resigned to the fact that babies only come when they're ready but I am looking forward to being pampered so its win win anyway :)

Well just been for my reflexology session and must say I really enjoyed it. Feeling incredibly relaxed now so even if it doesn't kick start labour it was worth it :)

Cookie, that sounds lovely! Did you go to someone that specialises in pregnancy?

cookiewuk · 17/05/2013 21:02

It really was :) Yes she specialised in maternity reflexology and made sure she checked I was close to my due date so as not to tweak anything that could stimulate labour if it was too early.
I can now pop back every other day for a 10 minute 'tweak' of those stimulation points until I actually give birth included in the price which I think is great.

Yep and angel dust

Sounds lovely :) forgive my ignorance, but may I ask what exactly it involved and how much it costed?

The belief is that different areas of your feet are connected to different areas of your body via meridian lines (I think that's what she called them anyway) and that stimulating these areas can promote healing, balance and well being etc. Stimulating the areas for the pelvis and uterus are also thought to help bring on contractions but of course there is no more proof for this than things like curry, sex, pineapple etc. Like I said though it was very relaxing anyway and I felt very pampered afterwards so it was worth the £35 especially since I can pop back for top up sessions until she is born.

Thanks cookie for the explanation. If I go overdue I think I'll give it a shot.
