Cheao ways to decorate the nursery?

Hello Ladies, I'm 21 weeks today and my mind has turned to thoughts of decorating and nesting. We have a spare room that was previously used as a nursey (we moved in earlier this year) and as we plan to do building work next year I don't want to spend a fortune but still want to make it look nice...

How have you decorated your nursery without breaking the bank?

notso great idea re Ikea spice racks- funnily enough I just saw it in a magazine recently. Just wish we had an ikea nearby... We found some bargain bits on ebay- gorgeous winnie the pooh fabric prints framed and then a winnie the pooh border from Mothercare, room painted yellow (as we didn't know what we were having). Now we'll have to do the 3rd room (currently our office) but this time I'm going to go for bright colours. Love the idea of one wall of bright wallpaper. Sort of thing that can be replaced in a few years without needing to repaint the whole room. Our eldest has removable wall stickers (think we got it from Amazon- has planes, trains, cars etc) he loves them.

oh yes and Ikea rugs are great for brightening a room up -they're cheap and the one I have goes nicely in the washing machine.

And just to add, yes it was a proper set of nursery wall stickers as we saw it in shops around the time.

mumoftwoboysS DS1's friend's mum said she'd seen 'our' shelves in a magazine too. We just wanted to copy the shelving they have in the children's library but couldn't see any anywhere until we found the spice racks Smile

We have just finished our nursery but have done it as more if a bedroom than a nursery.
We painted 3 walls magnolia/white that we had leftover from other rooms and a blue feature wall (we're having a boy) so we bought 1 5litre tin of paint £10. Bought 2 borders off amazon £10.89 total and removable wall stickers off eBay for £11.
The most expensive thing was the curtains £40 the window in baby's room is 90" drop in b and q and my sister bought them as part of her present for the baby!
I love the room and it will do our little man for a lot longer than a nursery type would!
We did my dsd age 5 room up at Xmas and did a feature wall with hello kitty wallpaper rest of walks white and storage unit/tv table from ikea only needed 2 rolls of wallpaper so bout £20 on decor and £30 for unit from ikea!
Also got a secondhand wardrobe and drawers off gumtree for baby's room!

We did practically nothing Blush
The room in question had been decorated recently enough in pale green with white on the ceiling and built-in wardrobes. We kept the existing curtains and carpet - both fairly new. I think we cleaned and repainted the inside of the wardrobes and I screwed the book shelf to the wall (so it doesn't fall over when DCs climb them). Later we fixed a bracket to the wall to hang a mobile over the cot, and added some freebie posters (bookstart height chart and that sort of thing).

To be fair my taste does not run to stickers, stencils, borders or feature walls and I'm against textured wallpaper (ever tried to remove it?). I'm a lazy creature really, and I didn't see the point of changing decoration/furnishings that were perfectly good. Also if DD is in with us for the first 6 months she'd be growing out of baby-hood fairly soon after she moved into her own room. This way we won't have to redecorate just because DD grows older and it will suit DC2 just as well whether boy or girl (they'll have to share until we can move house).

We painted the walls cream ('wheatgrass' actually Grin) and have bought a set of the funtosee hungry caterpillar stickers for the walls, although have yet to put them up. In a previous house we had the funtosee gruffalo stickers which were amazing, and came off the walls fine when we were selling up.

Glad to hear stickers have improved Grin. I have a feeling the previous people must have put them on wet paint (and it was matt!). It was stuck on fast!!!!
