What size/how many clothes to pack?

Have been busy making lists of what I need to pack in my hospital bag and have been stumped by the sizes of sleepsuits for baby.

I was considering taking some newborn and some 0-3 mths vests and sleepsuits. I am hoping not to be in hospital for too long and hubby can collect more clothes if necessary.

Will 3 of each be enough to get me through day 1?

I wouldn't bother with 0 - 3 unless you are expecting a very big baby.

DS was 6lb 14 and newborn drowned him and I had to send out for tiny baby clothes, he was over 10lb before 0-3 began to fit.

I would probably just take 6 newborn vests and babygrows to start with then take it from there.

I found it easier to go by weight/length than age for the smaller sizes.
0-3 months tends to be around the 'up to 14lb' mark which is huge!
When I get round to packing hospital bag I'll be taking 3 sets of up to 8lb stuff and 3x up to 10lb.
DD was 7lb1 so hoping for a similar weight again.

I took 0-3 as baby measured big. Turned out to be 10lb6 so that was def right size to buy :) he's unusual though so I'd say buy lots of 0-3 for at home as they grow fast but take newborn to hospital.

Was about to ask the same thing. I was just going to get 0-3 and not bother with newborn at all but they seem quite big

My DS was 9lb 14oz and his 0-3 were too small he went straight into 3-6 my dd was 7lb 11oz (was told she would be bigger than 10lb) and had to wear premature baby clothes. So I think it all depends on the shape and length of each baby...so I would take a couple of each size just to be on the safe side.

I would take 6 newborn vest/sleepsuits and not bother with 0-3. dd was 8.11 and was fine in newborn for a while. She did throw up a lot in hospital though (only in over night) and I ran out of clothes for her so take more than you think you'll need!

Also never leave the house without a spare outfit and a full pack of wipes. You will need them!

I would get a few sets from Next. They have a First size (7.8lbs) and an Up to one month (10lbs). I think 0-3 months would swamp most newborns.

I would take 3 of the first size and up to one month. Then maybe take 1 0-3 months set just incase. You could always leave a bag full of spares in the car boot or at home near the front door to grab if necessary.

I am packing 1 x tiny baby (up to 7.5lbs) vest and babygrow and 1 x newborn (up to 10lbs) vest and babygrow in my labour bag for the arrival of our DD. If DD is unexpectedly a whopper DH will have to dash to Tesco to get some 0-3's!

I am then packing another bag with 5 x vests and babygrows of both sizes in it in case we have to stay in hospital.

My DSis had a 7lb1oz baby 3 weeks ago and had only packed newborn so her DH had to dash out for tiny baby stuff as the newborn clothes swamped him.

As others have said, just take newborn stuff. Leave some extra newborn things in the car though, along with some 0-3 monthd if you want so if you need extra or you end up having a huge baby and need them your husband can bring them up for you.

I'd just take newborn stuff I think. My ds was 9lb and v long but fitted into newborn size for a good couple of weeks. Different shops size differently, but I shouldn't think you'd need 0-3 months unless baby is a whopper :)

Can somebody please remind me how many nappys I should take, and whether the rest of this list looks right please?

Muslin
Bibs x 3
Vests and babygrows x 5 (various sizes)
Hat x 3
Cotton wool pads
Wipes for when I remember cotton wool is a pain and doesn't work
Cellular blanket and cardigan for trip home in car

Is there anything I've forgotten? Sorry to high jack your thread OP!

I wouldn't pack 3 hats personally. One would probably do, or 2 I guess, but 3 seems a lot. I also wouldn't pack 3 bibs, one would be plenty. Unless you know you're staying in then most hospitals get you out quite quickly, of you take a muslin you can always wrap that round them if necessary. I took a bib last time and didn't use it.

I've put 10 nappies in, does that sound about right to people?!

Notea I thought it was excessive but they take up so little room and the ones I have vary quite a lot in size so I figured I'd stick them in!

At the moment I've got 12 nappies packed. Can't remember how many I took in with DS so no idea if that number is unrealistic.

I would take new born and the 0-3. My dc's have all been under 9lb but varied lengths. So the smaller ones were fine in the newborn, but the very long baby went straight into 0-3 for about a week.

I took 3 of each. Babies throw up. Nappies leak. Boys suddenly pee mid change. If your bf, you get leaky boobs and unless its just me, this soaks baby clothes.

Nappies I took a pack in, but I have never been lucky to be in and out in a day.

Also need scratch mitts and socks. Also something like a coat to leave hospital in.

Don't forget about your stuff either.

I'm taking 3 sleep suits and 3 vests in tiny baby.
3 sleep suits and 3 vests of new baby.
One cardigan in new baby.
Sorted!

For baby I have got 2 vests and 2 sleepsuits in newborn, a cardigan, 2 pairs of socks and will be putting in a blanket and a couple of dummies, a pack of size 1 nappies, a pack of wipes and the mini sudocrem that you get in samples. Just my stuff to buy and put in now, with my previous 2 dcs I took far too much, had to cart it round everywhere and just ended up bringing it all home again unused! If I do end up staying an need more, dh can always come home and pick up some more stuff for us, simples x

En route to the labour ward I tend to grab a vest, babygrow, snowsuit and phone charger and that'll be it!

No, monkey this is my second and I think from a few of the posts they are about seconds too. Most people like to be a bit organised and have a bag of some description packed.

4th and final time for me... :-)
1st was 10lbs and she fitted into 0-3 months
2nd was 8lbs and she fitted into Tiny Baby
3rd was 8lbs and he fitted into Tiny Baby
4th is meant to be about 8-9lbs, so hence taking Tiny Baby and Newbirn.

Sleep suits have fitted scratch mitts, don't forget a little hat too...

Second-time round here too and IF I go in it will be because of pre-term labour or PE again so a stay of 2+ nights.

FTMs don't seem to go home same day often here, they get sent up to post-natal wards for bf support etc.
