Anybody else pregnant in Sheffield?

Hi. I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant with second child and wondered if there are any other Sheffield mums out there planning to give birth at Jessops? I had a great experience first time round there in the pool, but have been told that August is going to be a busy month and that there might not be any beds!!! Me thinks that it is a clever ploy to get me to have a home birth. Everytime I see my mw she asks me 'have you thought about a home birth?' Anyone else been asked/told this?

Well, there's me! Smile
As you know, I'm planning a homebirth anyway. I have a couple of friends due around the same time, and for various reasons both of them will definitely be heading into Jessops for delivery. I don't think either of them would have the option of homebirth given their history, so I'm sure it won't have been suggested to them.
There do seem to be an awful lot of bumps around, though - it might not be quite so cynical as you fear!

Want me to ask my MW when she comes on Monday? Wink

i wasn't going to have a home birth with dd2 after a fanstatic first birth at jessops, she had other ideas!!

Yes, purpleturtle, I know you are pregnant due to us meeting each other on other threads! Think I will stick to my guns and demand a hospital birth. If I get there and there isn't a bed I will have to give birth in the car park and then come home!!! DH doesn't want to clear up any mess at home and I haven't any room to put a birthing pool until I start labour and then I have to move the dining table and chairs outside! Not such a good idea methinks!! Grin

Sarah,

I really hope this is the case, as I am due in August and I really want a homebirth and my MW says first births should be in hospital but I want to be at home in my water pool. So maybe we can swap places ;)

Babies.... I have been trying to convince dh that a home water birth will be right for us as we then won't have to disturb our ds. He's not convinced but I've said well it's my decision - I'm having the baby not you! What date are you due? I'm due 16 August but my ds was 8 days over so I am preparing for another long stint! However this time it's a girl so she might want to come out quicker!!!

Sarah,

I'm due on the 12th August, with a surprise baby and as this is my first I have no idea if he/she will be early or late.

This is the pool I'm using, it is smaller than the rigid ones and you don't need to inflate it (apart from a test inflate when you get it) until you go into labour.

Where abouts in Sheffield do you live ? I'm near Hillsborough in S6.

sarahlou1uk · 24/05/2006 14:21

Babies - I'm also in S6 but Birley Carr (between Wadsley Bridge and Foxhill)! Originally I'm from Wadsley but moved here 2 years ago. I've been considering one of these birth pools because they are a bit smaller than the Birth Pool in a Box ones. Plus these are in stock unlike the BPIAB who are out of stock until June.

I didn't even think they could run out of pools, I better order mine soon, just in case.
