Hi,

I have no idea which brand baby shampoo and baby lotion I should buy for my newborn. Any recommendations?

Thanks everyone - looks like the vote is to avoid Johnsons. Has anyone used the baby simple range?

I use tesco loves baby top to toe wash - ds ended up with shocking excema at a couple of weeks old we were told plain water only and avoid johnsons like the plaque, we water wash him in his bath but top to toe him in the shower as if he's in the shower he is usually manky :)

Meant to say i used johnsons when he was a newborn and he came out in excema - tescos range is really mild on him thankfully.

Bit surprised by all the critical comments about Johnsons. I always used their purple bottle - the lotion and the baby wash. It had lavender in it, and both my DC were fine with it, even though excema runs in our family. People used to tell me my babies smelled gorgeous.

I use the purple Johnsons body wash on my 3 yr old, racingheart. He smells delicious and we've never had a problem with it either. I'll use it on my 7 month old too when he's older and starts needed a proper scrub!

Johnsons was a nightmare here too - turned her skin red raw overnight the first time we used it Sad Now used dentinox cradle cap shampoo and weldeda baby bath if needed. Also used olive oil as a moisuriser (I was told not to use almond oil on a newborn as it is a nut oil and it's best to avoid nut products when they're very tiny in case they have a reaction). If her skin gets dry we use Cetraben emolient cream (buy from pharmacies - it's hypoallergenic). Also Neal's Yard baby barrier cream is the best I've found for nappy rash prevention. A bit expensive but lasts for absolutely ages!

Another vote for Weleda. They are more expensive but last for ages as I'd only use a pea sized amount. I only needed one tube for the first year.

I use johnsons no tears shampoo on DS and then dab in a bit of pantene conditioner and rinse, and he's fine with it. I was however told by my eyebrow threading lady that she went on a hair colouring course last year and they recommended using johnson's to strip the hair of colour Shock. I don't know how, but she says its a really harsh thing to use on a baby's head. I've always used it though, and can't see any visible bad effects of using it, so I'll carry on until he's old enough to move onto big person shampoo.
