Hello, I'm having trouble keeping up with the October antenatal thread & wondered whether any others planning a homebirth in September/October time might fancy a slower-moving support thread?
This is baby number 2 for me. DD was 3 in October & we had a homebirth last time too.

Hi all, glad you found the thread, shirehobbit!

Panacotta, I'm like you--hospital far closer (2 miles) than MLU.

I had lunch today with someone who had a HB with her first. She was incredibly positive about it, which was great as the norm seems to be hospital with first babies. She had a great thing in her birth plan where she had a special code word (I think hers was 'albatross'!) to use if she wasn't coping with the pain and wanted some intervention, she did this so she could express pain in the usual ways without anyone taking that as a sign she needed something more. Thought that was a pretty cool idea.

ej23 I hope you get the birth you want.

Thanks for the book suggestion, carcasonne, DH would probably like to read that.

Oh and hi to everyone else!

BowlFullofJelly · 16/04/2013 09:09

Going to tentatively dip my toe in this thread - due 30th September, see quite a few of the October ladies names on here!

Am tempted by a home birth, but not sure I am brave enough. Finally got around to watching the recent C4 home birth programme but just made me all teary re last birth, so not sure whether it was a good idea!

Hi all,

Thought I'd bump this thread. I'm due on Oct 21st with my first. Had my anomaly scan today and all is looking fine, so if things continue like this I'll be on for a home birth. We are moving house at the end of the month, so looking forward to getting settled in and starting to plan in earnest.

I've found out that there is a local homebirth group that runs monthly, which is great. I think I'll try and go along to those in July/Aug/Sept.

How are others doing?

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 04/06/2013 15:42

Ooh I forgot about this thread! I'm still on for hb, as far as I know. 28 week appointment next Friday, DH is coming along too. I asked at the 24 week one what would happen with regard to organising the specifics, and she said it's an extra MW appt at 36 weeks in your home (check it's not a crack den!) which is beginning of August, so still ages to go until then.

I never actually asked DH if he is happy with the idea of the hb, but he knows it's my body, my choice and I'll look up that book for him too. He will be in charge of DS, and at the moment whether we birth at home or in hospital he wants DS to go for a sleepover somewhere Just please not the ILs looking after him in our house although I'd love it if DS could just come in as soon as baby arrives, it would be added stress for DH if I had to transfer to hospital, so I'm leaving that up to him.

Thanks for the link Rake, I'm due September and also planning a homebirth. I just hate hospitals and lot of friends recently seemed to have overly medicalised births which I'd like to avoid if possible. Just confirmed my independent midwife which in my area makes me a lot more confident about it :)

islasmummy2013 · 07/06/2013 22:55

Really sorry to jump in here as I'm not due until Jan! But I am seriously considering a home birth as my last birth was hospital based and I was treated like a number who was taking up bed space! Nobody believed I was in pain as I wasn't screaming to the high heavens and I just had a really bad experience before and after the birth. All was straight forward with my last birth in itself it was just the over all experience which led to me being very uptight.
So to you ladies who have had a hospital and a home birth, we're you more relaxed and did you enjoy the overall experience more then a hospital birth?

WentOnABearHunt · 08/06/2013 13:25

Ohhh love this thread :)

I am due mid October with my third, and I am hoping to have a home birth :)

I have just read 'Do Birth' by C.Flint - great book about having a home birth/making your hospital birth more homey :)

Is any one considering buying a pool? I have thought about it, but i was induced with my second... scared of going over again and not being able to use it!

I am very excited not I have decided on it :)

RunningBear78 · 10/06/2013 12:43

Hi there, I'm on the verge of considering a home birth as apparently it is well supported in the area. We have a good MW led centre, in the maternity hospital, but I've not been to actually visit the centre yet so not sure if it is what I want. I've been converted by Ina May though, and both dh and I would appreciate the calm of being at home I think. I love the idea of a water birth but am a bit concerned our floor joists won't hold the weight (we've been under the floor ... it is terrifying!). But I think I could manage with the bath and just being at home ... maybeGrin.

WinterMammy · 10/06/2013 15:49

Hiya! I'm due my second late Oct too. I already have a little girl and I've just found out, today, were having a boy!! Really took us back as both family's are girls only, so I'm over the moon Grin

I'm also hoping to have a home birth but this will be my first.

PoppettyPing · 10/06/2013 19:57

RunningBear I was converted by Ina May Gaskin too. I find her books really inspiring.

workingtitle · 31/07/2013 10:17

Hi all, just bumping this in case anyone's around now that our due dates are getting closer...
We attended a homebirth group locally on Sunday and got to hear from a local midwife as well as a couple who'd just had a homebirth. Was really interesting and I think we are convinced. I'm going to have a hospital bag packed anyway in case we want to transfer, but beginning to look into pool hire etc.

How is everyone else doing?

I have some random handouts from the group, if anyone wants them just pm me!

Shirehobbit · 31/07/2013 15:10

Hello again Smile

Nothing happening here yet (@29+3) but I'm hoping that the next mw appointment will bring it up!
I'd be interested in those handouts, though workingtitle - I'll PM you too. Thanks!

workingtitle · 31/07/2013 20:36

Nearly at 30w Shirehobbit! I'm sure birth options will come up at a mw appt soon. Far as I know if you do opt for a homebirth they'll come and do a home visit at about 36weeks.
