Apparently acupuncture works well. At UCL Hospital (big training unit in London) they do it on NHS so their must be something in it.

I think babies still move of own accord up to around 38 wks though

bubbly1973 · 11/05/2006 13:25

lilacbump, this isnt your first pregnancy and i always thought they tend not to be as concerned until the very end cos like flum said baby will move of its own accord, i got my midwife appt tomorrow and im sure mine isnt head down either, will post on june thread and let you know and tell you what my midwife says

Hollyboo · 11/05/2006 14:02

Lilacbump, reflexology is supposed to help. Heard of one woman is my area who has turned many a baby. My dd was breach at 35 weeks, they talked about turning her if needed but I was reluctant because I had heard that in some hospitals they don't even try to do that (don't know how true that is). She turned on her own in the end while I danced my ass of at a wedding! and still came out by c section. Get down on your hands and knees and sway your bum from side to side for about 15 mins, this is one of the excercises I read about.

I had a breech baby until 39 weeks. At 38 weeks they made an appointment to try and turn him a few days later. I tried accupuncture first and a few days later when I turned up at the hospital for a scan to check again before doing the manipulation he had turned round all by himself. I'm pretty certain it was the accupuncture as ds had been in a breech position at every scan I had and I had about 6 for various reasons to do with his size.

Give it a go. It doesn't even involve needles. The women doing it on me put a sort of burning candle thing near my little toes . After treating me she told me to go home and do it myself (needed dh's help as I was so large)which I did over the next few days and voila!

Sometimes they turn on their own but the accupuncture is non invasive and quite relaxing

I had an ECV done with my last - he was right way around until about 37 weeks when he flipped over one night. The ECV was fine - a bit uncomfortable while they did it but was all over in a couple of minutes. There was a lot of waiting around before and after while they monitored the baby so bring a book or magazine if you have it done! I was desperate to avoid a c-section because I don't have any family nearby and not being able to drive for a month would have been difficult in terms of getting dd to school. Luckily he stayed the right was up after the ECV! I understand n ECV is more likely to be successful if it is not your first baby.

Have also heard good things about acupuncture turning breech babies. I had an acupuncture session for my sciatica last week (I'm 28 weeks now) and my doc used moxa herb to warm the needles, and warned me baba would be very active since it's the same herb used to turn breech babies (using different acupuncture points). Sure enough, it was like having a shoal of dolphins doing synchronised routines in my tummy for about an hour, and nipper ended up in completely different position, so will def. be back at 36 weeks if baby is breech! Worth a try before anything more invasive, I reckon.

Hi..my first was breech all the way through & she turned just a few days b4 i had her. It was all thank to the nuese at the hospital. I was in pieces when i was told my baby was breech & that i couln't give normal birth. I really broke down & then when i started my ante-natal classes the nurse told me to walk on my hands & feet. I did that for few days and went for my scan. the doctors could not believe it. Hope this also works for you!

My first baby was breech and I had her turned at the hospital by ECV at 38 weeks (after having tried chiropractor, reflexology, moxibustion and endless exercises). Afterwards I was told that the success rate wasn't that great (only about 50:50) but it worked for me! It was very painful though and took about 20 minutes of the doc pressing the baby round in each direction - I had gas and air.
I actually almost ended up with a C Sec anyway because my daughter got stuck and became distressed. She was born by ventouse in the end. Friends who've had CSecs have almost all been poitive about them.
I'm actually in a similar position now - 29 weeks pregnant and baby is breech so I need to decide what I want to do this time. At the moment I'm busy crawling around on my hands and knees and putting my head to the ground and bottom in the air (supposed to help!?)but am booked in for some acupuncture next week to see if that works - definately worth trying before more invasive techniques!
Hope this helps

Hey, going for an ecv tommorrow, well today I guess looking at the time. Am 37 weeks, will let you know how it goes x

staylucky · 25/06/2009 18:19

Hi Lilac bump, I had my ECV yesterday. Sadly it didn't work for us cause i'm told my baby is very naughty! LOL

It wasn't too bad though, everyone i've spoken to said it was horrible and hurt blah blah blah... Seriously though had an injection in my tummy to relax the muscles and ok was a bit uncomfortable but not painful. (Some places give you gas and air I hear) Was monitored before and after to check baby's heartrate ect and was on the scanner the whole time throughout so have no fears about safety.

I really have my fingers crossed for you either that your baby turns or the ECV works for you anyway.

I'm booked for a section now in two weeks time so am willing mine to get a move on and turn!

YummyMummy17 · 27/06/2009 12:59

hey, i found out my son was breech when i was 30weeks, and he still was when i was 33weeks, i have the midwife on monday for my 36week check-up, if he is still breech (confrmed by scan) i think im just going to ask for a section, my mum had 3 sections and she had good reviews about it and an i heard evc isnt 100% effective, and is ment to be sore......?

can someone give me advice?

xx

nettyt · 11/08/2009 15:33

my first daughter was breech so Ihad her turned successfully by ECV at 38 weeks. Was quite painful as thy got her stuck halfway but she did turn after about 20 minutes or so of them trying. I said at the time I would never have it done again but I am now 29 weeks pregnant again and have another breech baby! Hopefully it will turn as plentky of time but I will try every trick in the book to turn this one but if it comes down to it I'll go with ECV again. I've heard positive things about reflexology so may tr ythat in next few weeks. I want to avoid a c-section at all costs as I htink this would make things difficult for my daughter who will have just turned 2. She is a mummy's girl and I hate the thought of a 6 weeks recovery and not being able to pick her up and do all our usual things

howdidthishappenthen · 11/08/2009 21:00

Acupuncture, reflexology, moxybustion, watching TV on hands & knees (much to hilarity of DH) all totally ineffective in the case of my first pregnancy. ECV did the trick - had mine done at John Radcliffe - but it blimin hurt! Worthwhile finding out about success rates in the hospitals local to you - the JR had double the success rate of the other local one (Stoke) - or so I was told. Good luck!

Hi guys pretty new to this but thought i would share my last weeks with you .....
Relatively easy pregnancy (so far) had bleeding in early stages but apart from that all good!
Baby has been head down for past 6 weeks but has turned breech last week also my growth scan is reading more fluid than average, have to go back Thursday for possible induction / section......
Bit worried as here the time to recover can be lengthy ..... My previous pregnancies (18 yrs ago ??) we're really straight forward ....
Any advice xxxx

Hi everyone just thought I’d share this as my baby had been breech since 30wks so the consultant had warned me about the possibility of c section and the EGV procedure both daunting as I had 2 natural births previously and couldn’t bare the idea of not having a natural birth also my baby has been measuring below 10cenitle since 26wks so lots of bad signs.
But positive news after 2 sessions of acupuncture and hanging off the sofa at least 4 times a day..
The baby turned at 36+6 wks!!!!
So it is possible! Don’t loose hope.
