Hyperemesis Support

We need a new thread.

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH MOP Ovaltine bluebirdsunshine (I think she's changed her nickname) Fluffy, Horsey Kalidasa, Nannyl and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Bump Oh dear, admitted, sorry to hear that and I hope the IV soon kicks in and you feel a bit better.
Hyper Poor you, that sounds nasty, could be either, could be a hormonal surge, I've heard, might account for headaches. My usual question - what do ketones say, I bet people get sick of hearing it - pun not intended! I hope it is just a bug, there are some going about for sure, as it isn't so discouraging as a relapse.
Labrador So glad about symapthetic GP who's had it twice!
Sterlings How are you? Everyone?
Tallyra How are things with you, sensible advice, as ever!

it sounds a bit like my bug at the weekend hyper, it came on very quickly and disappeared quite fast too. fingers crossed.
I'm OK now thanks Lucinda, it went away by sat morning but left me with a hideous dehydration migraine.

Hyperhelpmum · 22/05/2013 20:28

Hope so. I feel really really low that I'm this bad again. Was advised by nurse at GP surgery to go to a and e and get seen but I just can't face it tonigh. I will tomorrow if need be. Awful excessive saliva making me feel so sick and just feel dreadful :( bad feeling its HG. Someone reassure me this wont go on all the way through. I can't bear it :(

fl0b0t · 23/05/2013 12:06

Hi all
Sorry to see so many still on here and many new faces too.
I've reached 23 weeks (no idea how that happened) and have been vomit-free since week 15 or so- so just another reminder there's hope! I'm still taking the phenargen and still feeling pretty ropey most days, but in comparison to how I was it's much much easier.
As I head towards 3rd trimester, I am starting to feel more tired, and more sick with it which is disappointing, but hopefully it won't get too much worse again.

FX for all of you feeling rubbish- get lots of rest. The only thing that made me feel even the tiniest bit better xxx

LucindaE · 23/05/2013 15:12

Flo Lovely to hear from you, sorry you still feel sick though nothing like as bad as you did,I suppose you are still forcing yourself to work, you've been really stoic, and travelling everywhere by public transport. Thanks for encouraging message.
Bump Are you still in hospital? Hyper How are things now? Tallyra Sorry about foul bug. I think I had it too, I thought it was a particularly foul migraine, you're right, it's violent, but it goes quickly.
wavesandsmiles you are quiet, I hope OK? Everyrone?

I'm gradually feeling better, still feeling the nausea and the horrible phlegm-in-the-throat thing has not gone but no actual sick since Sunday. Had 16wk appointment yesterday which went well (blood pressure even lower than last app somehow!) midwife had bad sickness in her own pregnancy so was v sympathetic.

Also had a letter from HR at work, saying they want to do a full assessment when I get back or they'll come to me if I get signed off again. Felt reassured that they are taking this seriously.

Meds are still turning me into a zombie though - am sleeping a lot a the mo, drifting off all through the day zzzz then I wake up and feel dizzy and worse than when I went to sleep!

Hyperhelpmum · 23/05/2013 17:04

Hi I feel a bit better and only been sick once but entering my bad time of day and feel awful again now. Feel like crying. Meant to be going to Cornwall for three days tomorrow and scared HG will ruin it. I'm just so so fed up of this now. It's so hard to bear when I thought I was on the up :(

LucindaE · 23/05/2013 18:12

Hyper You poor thing - hugs - it's very hard, spoils everything. I do hope you manage to go.
Sterlings I am so glad that they are willing to come out for you for the OH assessment, and that you got some sympathy, too. It so helps if someone has been there although there was someone on here a few months ago who had a GP who said that she'd had Hyperemesis herself and wasn't symapthetic, but that can't be usual...

Hi everyone - Hyper I am sorry to hear you are feeling so sad.

We have had a horrible tummy bug in the house which has really knocked me. It has been very hard to look after vomiting DCs! DS is better and went back to school today but DD is still poorly, as am I. Hard to know where the bug ends and the HG starts if you understand? Off to hospital tomorrow though, I have become quite disciplined with crunching icecubes and eating little bits whenever I feel able, but my entire life now seems to be lying down and forcing down ice cubes or sips of icy drinks! I'm 30 + 2 now, so on the home straight and still hoping for a few good days before the baby arrives.

Thinking of everyone x

TiredFeet · 23/05/2013 20:33

gentle hugs all round from me, sorry to see so many suffering / still suffering. I am doing ok, still have to have my medication bang on time or I go down hill fast, still struggling with smells etc, but I am starting to manage to eat a bit more. I do struggle to drink enough though. and I am just so tired. trying to run a house, a job and a toddler is hard going! decided to have an early night tonight and ignore the housework. I can feel my body telling me to stop!

on the positive side I won some vouchers in a mumsnet competition and ordered some lovely new shoes with them (couldn't face going in a shop), it has really cheered me up to have a little treat. just need to feel well enough to plan a night out to wear them now, may be some way off I think!

hyper I really hope you manage to enjoy cornwall a bit. hopefully the change of scenery will cheer you up a little at least

waves 30 weeks starts to sound really quite close to the finish line Smile

BumpAndGrind · 23/05/2013 21:53

I'm still in the hospital, don't
think I can cope much more, only 9 Weeks here, hats of to all those nearing 30

TiredFeet · 23/05/2013 22:09

oh bump poor you. you may find even if it doesn't go away that you do at least start to get more 'good days' soon. 9 weeks was when I was at my very worst, it has got a lot more bearable since.

Hyperhelpmum · 24/05/2013 13:13

Poor you bump. I felt a bit better by 11-12 weeks, more good days. Hope everyone has a good bank holiday without too mUch HG interference.

BumpAndGrind · 24/05/2013 14:45

Going home today, not feeling sick and rating again. Why do I panic thinking baby isn't ok when I am?

BumpAndGrind · 24/05/2013 14:46

Eating!

TiredFeet · 24/05/2013 15:35

I think that is normal bump I know both me and hyper have posted several times with those worries! But remember its almost certainly ok and just that the meds are working now Smile hope you can rest lots, don't over do it, and make the most of being able to eat!

LucindaE · 24/05/2013 16:48

Bump So glad you are feeling a lot better. Yes, everyone has that awful dilemma on here - if they feel awful, they are more confident that the baby is OK, if they feel halfway reasonable they worry - but as others say, that'll almost certainly be the meds working, thank goodness.
Tiredfeet Congratulations on shoes! Is that why you have that name?
Glad you can eat a bit. Liquids seem so 'bulky', don't they?
Hyper I hope you are a little better today.
I've lost my message to wavesandsmiles - but sorry to hear that you've had to cope with the LO's being sick, too. It's a nasty bug. Thirty weeks? I just so hope you get some relief at some point - one women on here said with her first pregnancy it went on until 32 weeks and then oddly, stopped.
Hope Everyone is OK. Apologies to anyone not mentioned.

Bump I hope at home, and still feeling beter, and that wavesandsmiles I hope you are a bit better, comparatively - and that Everyone's meds are working as much as possible. What do people think of fresh mint tea? I found it did help the heartburn, but not everyone can stand it or is as fond of growing herbs as me!
Hyper I hope yuu got off to Cornwall.

At home, feeling better but still having wobbles, especially if I stand too quickly.

They have changed my med to Cycizine.

Hope everyone else is ok.

LucindaE · 26/05/2013 09:24

Bump Glad you're home again. What were the ketones when you were admitted, I'm sure they'd shot up?

they were 2++ when I called OOH feeling awful, 4++++ when the hospital tested me 3 hours later and I could no longer walk. It was scary how fast I went down hill really, was admitted for 3 days.

Hyperhelpmum · 27/05/2013 17:20

Hi all, bump glad you are feeling better. Don't worry I was convinced something awful had happened when I had a good patch after being virtually bed bound for weeks. It has come back each time but good patches are getting better and a bit longer. I had great days on Saturday and Sunday so managed to enjoy Cornwall (though ate a load of crap!!!) now home with a stinking cold and headache plus nausea but not been sick since fri - a record for me! I'm 15 weeks tomorrow. Hope everyone else managed to enjoy the weekend? tired waves ?

TiredFeet · 27/05/2013 19:43

take it easy Bump let your body rest it really takes it out of you

hyper really pleased you managed to enjoy cornwall Smile and doesn't matter what you ate, don't worry about that yet!

I am ok had good weekend, seen lots of friends and family and its been sunny so pretty happy with that! sickness definitely reduced now but I have very limited appetite and lots of food aversions so my diet is still awful. but I only have nausea if I am late taking my medicine or get really tired/ don't eat, so that is massive progress!

hope everyone has had some good patches at least this weekend x

wavesandsmiles · 27/05/2013 20:44

Yes, please take it easy Bump

Glad to hear that things are better for you both hyper and tired. I've had a few okish days with less vomiting than usual, but today has been horrendous Sad I am seeing my consultant tomorrow for a scheduled appointment, at which stage I will be 31 weeks exactly.

The sun has been shining here too, so I have been laying down on the patio getting some colour into my face. Tomorrow the DCs are off for a sleepover at a friend's house, so hopefully that will go well (she is my emergency childcare for when I go into labour or if I need any further admissions). Her DCs and mine are very excited, and it means I will have a night off which I really think I need.

Hyperhelpmum · 28/05/2013 09:31

Well done everyone, keep plodding. What meds are you all on now? I'm struggling again and was sick last night and unable to eat despite cyclizine. Wondering if this cold and sinus pain are making it worse. Still really struggle with drinks. Have an amazing rest waves sounds like heaven and hopefully you'll get a bit of a lie in? Glad your weekend was good tired we are finally there with potty training! One hurdle out the way at least!
