Had a "favourable" sweep today but still confused.

This might be a silly question but expecting Dc1 40+1 and had a sweep today, after reading all the other threads I was slightly petrified to say the least at having one but it was completely fine and over before it started, the Dr said I was already 2-3cms and very favourable which is why it wasn't painful. She said as a protocol she has to book me in for induction next week but I'll not need it as again I'm "favourable".
Now I'm wondering as it was so easy did she do it right and I'm not really sure what she means by favourable ?..I've had some twinges and pressure last few days but nothing I could complain about, am I on the right track and should i expect baby soon or should I be concerned there was no pain with the sweep... Could she of done it wrong ??? Sorry just need some advice

I had 3 attempts at sweeps - I with DS where she basically stuck her hand up (sorry!) but did nothing as I was so unfavourable. With DD they tried when my Bishop's score was 5 (40 + 3) and the gave me sort of 50/50 odds that it would work. It hurt like buggery and didn't even lead to niggles.. 2 days later my Bishop's score was 7 and they tried again. No pain and DD arrived in under 48 hours! Do you have your notes handy to check what your Bishop's score was? I think 7 and up means the chances of it working are higher but I could be talking through my arse

Thanks very much just checked my notes and she hasn't recorded a bishop score .. Just wrote soft cervix 2-3cms I'll just keep bouncing on my ball and stick with the pineapple and if all else fails ill try smoking the baby out! Lol xx

2 pregnancies, 2 favourable painfree sweeps, 3cm dilated first time, 2cm last time, both born within 24 hours.

I'd say you have a good chance of labour starting with 48 hours, especially since it sounds like your body has been gearing up for it anyway.

My one piece of advice (for what it's worth!) - I spent the hours after my sweep trying to spur things on by bouncing on my ball etc, especially when I started to get niggles. The sweep was on the Thursday and I thought I was going into labour overnight but it all calmed down on Friday morning. I spent Friday walking, bouncing..I wish I had spent it resting! DD was born on Saturday night & I had hardly slept for 2 days!

No that's good advice and all advice welcome !!my mum has told me the same no point walking and bouncing all day then having no energy when delivering baby! Mummy's know best lol x

I had a "favourable" sweep last Friday at 40+6, 2-3cm dilated. Soft cervix etc.

Now 41+3 and no signs of labour.

This will be my first too.

Everyone really is different.

I had a favourable sweep (at 41+3 I think), then was told to go baby shopping - apparently the (cute?) hormones can get you going, so we spent an hour or so in BabyGap. Grin

When we got home I was setting up the pram and then 4am that night woke up with contractions and baby arrived at 5.37pm the same day.

Fingers x'd it works as quickly for you. :)

Thanks leeloo we actually came home and set the pram up earlier too.. Quick question though how long did you bleed for after your sweep .. I'm still bleeding and had it this morning... Sorry TMI xxConfused

You too! My induction is looming and the pamphlet on inductions did not make for happy reading.

I had my sweep about mid-day on Friday and had the bleeding until Saturday evening, very light though. Had my "show" on Saturday evening too, so much fun in 2 days! :)

Sorry, I just saw this. I didn't bleed at all. Not sure what that means, but fingers x'd you have your baby by now. :)

I had a favourable sweep at 40+7 with ds1 2cm. Was induced a week later :(
