A bit concerned about blood test results for Downs

Just had my 12 week scan - all looked fine. Nuchal measurement was 2mm. Had blood test result today and odds for Downs are 1:340. I am 35 (will be 36 when I give birth).

I've looked up the 'normal' odds for a 35 year old and they're something like 1:380. Can I find out why my result is lower? The letter says I'm low risk but still seems a bit high to me? Can anyone reassure me they had a similar result? I am a bit neurotic as this is my first pregnancy. Thanks!

1:149 is considered to be high risk, so you're well into the low risk section. I think you can ask for a breakdown of the bloodwork, but really I wouldn't worry.

Different hospitals have different cut off points for low and high risk. My local hospital the cut off is 1:150 anything lower than 1:150 is high risk and they will offer tests. I am 31 and my result was 1:117 so I fell into the high risk category but this translates to a less than 1% risk that my baby will be affected by Down Syndrome so your results will an even lower risk.
Sorry if I'm not explaining myself well or if it wasn't the information you were after.

No advice as such, but sometimes percentage risk can be easier to see - a 1 in 340 risk is 0.29% - so very low probability!
