I am 33 wks for 2 weeks I have been having lots of uncomfortable aches/pains in my vagina. It hurts when I walk + is very uncomfortable all the time. I've rang my midwife they said its all normal but I never remember having this problem when I was pregnant with daughter until I was about 38 wks.

They think baby may be big, midwife has said a few times over the last few months that baby is head down. Was wondering if anyone else has had this + if they had their baby early ?? I've read a few things about baby being back to back which causes a lot of the syptoms I'm having is this correct ??

I'm due to go in for c-sec at 39 wks but worried I might go into labour before then. Any advice/help would be greatly recieved

If its actually inside your vagina I haven't a clue but if its in your vaginal area its probably pubis sympathese dysfunction ( know I haven't spelt that correctly) also known as pelvic girdle pain or SPD.

Try resting when ever you can on your side with a pillow between your thighs or a support belt thingy can help.

Directly ask your midwife about those names as during labor they will need to help you avoid certain positions as they can cause long term pelvis issues.

Hi there. I'm 34 weeks tomorrow and been getting aches and pains at night. Like you I don't remember this when pg with DD1. I think everything kicks in earlier in subsequent pregnancies (this is my second and last - hopefully). Baby's head is down but not engaged - and she is measuring average for term

Choccybaby · 25/03/2013 07:47

I think on second, third etc babies they tend to get lower sooner as everything's been stretched before so this kind of symptom comes sooner than previous pregnancies.

Bit like an electric shock?! I've bee having it since around 30 weeks. MW says its a sign of an irritable uterus and I needed to take it easy if it kicked (not easy when you're a nurse on a ward!). It got so bad I couldn't move for it happening and at that point I saw my GP who diagnosed a UTI. After a week's course of antibiotics and a few days' rest it eased considerably.

I found this website quite useful.

Don't forget second (plus) time around, your body has been through it before. So everything, especially your cervix, will be thinner and more sensitive.

I'm pregnant with my 4 th baby, and boy can I feel everything.
I'm 32 weeks. I liken the feeling to the baby scraping my cervix with his finger nails! Ouch!
I'm not a medical person, but that's what I'd put it down to... Not necessarily the baby scratching, but certainly your body having been there, done it, got the tshirt!!!
Regarding early labour, it sounds unlikely. Be prepared for Braxton hicks.. Fake contractions. I've been having them, and I keep track of them, just in case they turn out to be the real thing!
My lower bump goes rock hard and everything tightens to the point it takes your breath away. Then, it stops.
If they become regular, as in one after another, and they increase in discomfort/pain... That is something to worry about.
But, again, unlikely.

Ok so just got home from walking my daughter to school, it was a very painful walk there + back I felt sick with the pain, bottom of my back aches too... My tummy aches when I walk too. And the pain isn't right in my vagina its more on the outside if that makes sense. My daughters school is like a 5-10 min walk so not very far. I have a midwife appointment 2moro so do I grin + bare it until then or ring the doctors ???

Just rang the maternity ward as my midwife works part time she has just confirmed its spd .... My god how bloody painful is it. She said to take regular paracetomol if that doesn't work I will have to get perscribed pain killers !! Great its agony and has got a lot worse in the 2 weeks I've had it feeling really sorry for myself now :(

Oh, sorry to hear that. See how you manage with paracetamol.. And if it doesn't work, get on those prescription ones ASAP, today if possible. X

RachaelH1983 · 25/03/2013 11:11

Thanks for all of your advice I can't help feeling slightly scared if I'm honest if I'm in this much pain now how am I going to be able to keep going until I'm 39 wks + going in for a c-sec ?? Any idea what pain killers they will prescribe ??

Anyone got any hints or tips how they coped with spd please ??

Generally for pain in pregnancy you'd start with paracetamol. If that's not effective you can try some codiene too (with advice). I'd ask for a physio referral for advice on lifestyle management and possibly a girdle to help.

MissLurkalot · 25/03/2013 11:19

I have no direct experience of spd, but type in google Mumsnet SPD and loads of other posts come up.. Here's one of them.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/a1708746-SPD-what-makes-it-better

My advise would get yourself to an Osteopath ASAP. I see one throughout pregnancy every 8 weeks to keep everything in alignment. Then, I see him once a year generally. I cannot recommend it enough. He or she could really, really help you get things back in alignment.

I know that it's quite common for pregnant women with psd to take prescribed painkillers. I can't remember what ones they take, but if you're gp/midwife suggest it, grab them.

RachaelH1983 · 25/03/2013 11:22

Am seeing my midwife 2moro will explain I need stronger pain killers other than paracetomol and will do physio if I get referred for it right now I'd do anything to stop this pain its unbearable :( my doctors is a 20 minute walk away so will walk up 2moro ( I don't drive ) but will say that my next appointment she will have to come and see me at home as a 5 min walk to the school was agony so a 20 min walk to the docs and then a 20 min walk home is gonna be so painful :(

You could try co-codamol OTC for now. Midwife won't be able to prescribe anything so I'd see if you can get a GP appointment for tomorrow if you're up there anyway.

RachaelH1983 · 25/03/2013 11:46

when i spoke to the midwife at the hospital this monring she said the midwife can get a prescribtion done for me ??? i have no co-codamol in the house and i am not going out to buy some im staying in the warm now until i need to get my daughter later...

may well ring the doctors and ask if a doctor can call me and see what they say and if they do prescribe anything i can collect it 2moro
