When did you stop domestic flights for work?

I keep hearing horror stories about women being pulled out at boarding in thei second trimester and letters from their GP being demanded by airlines.
I could do without this at the end of a 12 he work day but I could also do without 9-10hr train journeys instead.

Any experiences?

I'm talking about ba, fly-be and easyjet between London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Bristol etc. mainly there and back same day.

Thanks.

Btw. Airline websites say you can fly up to 32 wks though some ask for a letter after 28 but I've heard of women having unpleasant challenges from staff at 25wks or less :(

I get email updates from something like nct or nhs can't remember which. This week it said that after 27weeks I'd need a letter from gp / midwife. I don't know if they'll ask for it but I don't want to take the risk of not being allowed to fly. The email also said that I'm allowed to fly up to 36 weeks, though airlines may have different policies.

In my first pregnancy I flew regularly (short and long haul) up to the date at which you need a fit to fly note. Once I was showing I started travelling with a note from the doctor showing the date of start of pregnancy and my edd to "prove" I didn't need a fit to fly note. I don't think I ever needed to show it but I did feel a bit less nervous about being challenged at check-in.

Yes, and the dates at which you need a fit to fly note vary between airlines so you do need to check.

Did you have to pay your GP for that note? And did you just take your mat notes for the GP to read and decide? (I haven't seen my GP during my pregnancy).

Thanks.

I wasn't actually in the UK for that pregnancy so I got sent a piece of paper once I'd declared the pregnancy with all the dates on it from the local health board. I spoke to my midwife about it too (as I was also worried like you) and she would have done me a note otherwise. Sorry, I should have perhaps been a bit more specific. But you must surely have a health care professional following your pregnancy in some form? I would just ask them to write something out about edd, etc. on headed paper with a signature.

I was flying internationally (with damn good insurance!) for work until about 30 weeks. I took a GP letter with me confirming I was for to fly from as soon as I was showing significantly (around 25 weeks if my memory is correct).

I would suggest you always take your maternity notes with you just incase, not only to prove how pregnant you are if necessary but also incase you need emergency care whilst you are away.

Only fly as long as you are happy to and whilst you are comfortable.

I am seeing midwife this week for the letter, can't imagine I have to pay. Is it your first baby? I'm seeing GP or midwife every 4 / 5 weeks... but that might just be my part of the world (they also signed MAT B1 form and other bits like that...)

carrielou2007 · 24/03/2013 17:43

Yes I had to pay for letter from Gp to fly was about £15 I think not asked for it so everyone must just have thought I was lardy Smile

carrielou2007 · 24/03/2013 17:44

Also I was able to fly up to 36 weeks I think.

JudithIscariot · 24/03/2013 17:57

Up to about 28 weeks I think. But occ. Health put paid to it when I said I could no longer stow my bag with out assistance.

badguider · 24/03/2013 18:16

Thanks. I'll ask a MW next time I see one. I am low risk so far (fingers x) so have only seen MWs at 8 and 18wks so far. I need my mat1b thingy before 26wks for MA (self employed) so will ask at the same time.
I find the long train journeys far harder than flying so want to fly as long as possible.
