Nursing bras - when do I start buying?

I'm almost 36 weeks and have managed to stay in my normal sized bras, or next size up throughout my pregnancy.

My question is when do I get measured for a nursing bra? My breasts have not increased that much in size so I would not want to waste money on buying one then outgrowing it rapidly!

What did you do?
Thanks for reading Smile

First time round it was recommended to get fitted at 37 weeks+, and they'll usually fit you a bit loose on the cup and tight on the band. Tbh you'll change so much in the first couple of weeks I'd get 1 or 2 cheap ones max. John Lewis do a nice cheapish twin pack or better still get something like this bravado bra which you buy in small/medium etc rather than a specific size. The latter is not as nicely fitted but you can always use as a night bra once you're getting out and about.

Nursingbra website is v good btw and usually much cheaper than high street. Just go to bravissimo for fitting first!

Good question! :)

I've got the Bravado silk bra and its fab because of the sizing. But I think if you are on the heavier side which I am, you may need more support. But still I think I'm just going to purchase another Bravado bra closer to the time.

I just wore crop top type things for the first few weeks, but I'm not large-chested so it worked fine for me. Boobs swelled to porn-star size for about 3 days then settled back down so I went and got measured after that.

I just got fitted at 38wks at Bravissimo and bought one (Panache Sophie - sooo comfy) from them with intention of buying a couple of sleep-style nursing bras elsewhere. Trouble is finding sleep bras that fit as I have narrow back, but sizable assets (pre-preg 30E, currently 32G). So the Bravado silk, which everyone raves about, doesn't work for me size-wise. I've got some of the Carriwell seamless ones on order and am hoping they're more suitable.

I'll then go back and get fitted again a month or two post-partum when things settle down...

Another vote for the bravado silk bra. I bought mine at 33 weeks and I'm nearly 38 now - still wearing them. They are extremely comfy and should do me for the first week or so after baby is born. I also picked up a couple of nursing vest tops from h and m online (the sizes come up big though, so go for your pre pregnancy size if you opt to buy them) for £14.99 - they make good sleep vest tops! A few friends have suggested getting fitted for proper nursing bras after the milk comes in as your boobs can change size dramatically and your back measurement might get smaller again as your ribs return to normal and all your totally squashed bits move back down to where they are supposed to be!
