Organic Skincare for Baby

Hi,

Any recommendations on organic baby skincare. Or something will no nasties in it. Was thinking of Burts Baby Bee. Anyone tried this?

I really love Weleda baby stuff. Their Calendula body/hair wash is lovely.

If it's for a newborn, all you need is water, a maybe some Vaseline to help with the meconium.

Other than that, the Butts Bees stuff is nice.

I actually got an allergic reaction from the Burt's Bees Bump Butter (or whatever it's called) so will not be using that.

I was thinking of using the Weleda stuff too.

You can get trial starter packs for both Weleda and Burt's Bees. I had the starter pack for Burt's Bees but gave it away and have ordered the Weleda starter pack. Saves you buying the big bottles

The weleda calendula baby range is fantastic. I'd not use anything on a newborn for a while though. Just water and a nice soft sponge to wash all the lovely newborn clefts. Give it time to acclimatise to the world without any chemicals, organic or otherwise.

I've bought Cowshed Baby Cow Organics products as new baby gifts for a couple of friends, and received very positive feedback about them. The only trouble is they're a bit expensive so I can't really justify using them for my baby's day-to-day skincare (I am dropping hints to people interested in buying gifts for the baby though!)

I plan on using water only in the early days and then the Weleda calendula range as baby gets a bit bigger. I've used Weleda products for years and find they're great for my sensitive skin.

I think I'll try to avoid all products for the first 6 weeks and then see how baby is getting on.

Plenty of people start washing their newborns with petrochemical based products from day one and it doesn't do the babies any harm. I'm just more cautious as both me and DP have mild eczema so our baby is more likely to have delicate skin too.

Its not Organic but I just bought the infamous Waitrose nappy cream (currently on special 2 for £4), and it smells and feels lovely!

All I used on my baby was coconut oil and a very occasional squirt of weleda in the bath if I felt he needed a bit extra.

The Green People baby range is meant to be amazing too. I use their adult products and bought the baby ones for my friend who said they were wonderful for baby.

The first three months I just used water and then Burty Bee Baby bath.

Im going to try the CJ's BUTTer stick stocked by the green nappy machine as its vegan and organic. I will be back with a review if you like. Its half the price of BB.

Another vote for Weleda, it's lovely. We only use it once a week for hair washing and just plain water the rest of the time. But it makes her hair smell lovely, like hot cross buns.

We used only water until they were 15 weeks old now we use Little Me organic baby products. They have a nice range and pretty affordable too.

We like Weleda and Burt's Bees - but DD is 14 months and still is only really washed in water. Don't bathe them too often especially in a hard water area. Best tip ever for softening water is an 'oat tea bag' - a small heap of oats tied into a muslin then put in the bath (squeeze a bit). You can use this directly on skin and hair and it's lovely, and natural, and cheap.

You really really don't need many products for babies . Weleda nappy cream is the best I've found though

You don't need to use anything until their nappy gets really nasty and then washing their bum is quite important, so probably more when food is introduced.

When they get nappy rash I found bathing helped and I would second nothing much stronger than an oat sack for moisturising or a bit of baby bath from boots, is very very mild.

The thing about Burt's bees is that it smells very strong, I use it on my toddlers. But I did use it on my first although it wasn't very sustainable due to the cost.

My postnatal midwife recommended neal's yard. Seems good.
