I just wanted to share this... as I don't want to be one of those first time neurotic mums-to-be who contacts the midwife/hospital every time she gets a twinge or something BUT...

I am currently 13+3 weeks with DC1 and have been suffering 24/7 nausea for the past 7 weeks... but I have only actually vomited badly less than 5 times during this time... I had my 12 week scan last week and all was good.

This morning I woke up at 7am with a sharp pain to my right sight (a bit like the type of pain you get during ovulation and in that same area). My bladder was also really full so I went to the bathroom. I was sitting on the toilet trying to pee and the pain was really bad in my right side. The next thing is my body is starting to feel really hot all over and I feel as if I am going to black out. I then got up and I started wretching and vomiting badly down the toilet. I then felt all this wetness down below and panicked but it was only water. I think actually I might have only pee'd myself for the very first time due to the violent vomiting but it was a shock. This all then passed and I went to lie down to try and recover. I started to feel a lot better but was panicked by what had just happened. I am no longer feeling the pain in my right side and am not feeling like blacking out or vomiting any longer apart from my usual nausea.

...sorry for the lengthy post but has anyone else experienced something like this? Should I be vomiting at nearly 14 weeks? Does this sound normal?

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and I totally appreciate any comments whatsoever xxxxxx

Not sure but I don't think you'd be neurotic to call the midwife.

I would also call your midwife to check. But it sounds like just a really bad bout of morning sickness, and obviously when you vomit your body will just let go of whatever else it needs to (think what happens during the noro virus...) I had terrible morning sickness up to week 16 - vomited at least once a day, often projectile - nice! I still get a '24 hour' burst of it at least once a week, with a vile headache/migraine, for some reason bad BO - but only during this 24 hours (It is so annoying! I am so fastidiously clean all the time! I have to change my tops and wash under my arms mid day to keep on top of it, after morning shower, then have a bath in eve) and a few times I felt really faint after being sick and had a little nap on the bath mat next to the loo. Try and keep your blood sugar up, and rest Thanks

I did that in the first trimester. I have been doing pelvic floor exercises ever since!

I think if you've had intense pain though, it's worth contacting your midwife. I had one sided pain and it turned out to be a UTI that had tracked it my kidney.

Vomiting, pains and twinges and weeing yourself (oh the glamour!) are all pretty standard but I would talk to your midwife. Never feel like you're a pest for calling the midwife, that's what they're there for.

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 20/03/2013 17:38

I'm still vomiting occasionally at 23 weeks, can go a few weeks then all of a sudden am sick, air freshner set it off the other day. Have they checked your blood pressure etc lately, I would def ring the midwife to be safe.

TinkyPeet · 20/03/2013 17:55

Snap with twinkle, 23 weeks and still randomly vomit, and I actually have to sit on the loo and throw up in the sink as its a sure thing that ill pee myself! Oh the joys lol. Hope you're okay x

Do you ever get ovarian cysts? Before I was pregnant I had two cysts which ruptured and the pain, feeling hot, incontinence and vomiting you describe were exactly how I felt when they burst. Excruiating!

I know it's possible to develop cysts during early pregnancy so it might be worth asking your midwife if you think your symptoms are more than MS alone. Hope you start feeling better soon.

Rhubarb78 · 20/03/2013 20:07

I agree with petcat it could be a corpus leuteal (or something like that) cyst that has burst. its totally normal in pregnancy, i have had one in my last 2 pregnancies and I was warned I might get pain when it burst. I knew exactly when this one burst as I had a sharp pain on the side they said it was. Its always worth ringing the midwife to check though. remember this is your baby you are looking out for, i dont care at all about getting a reputation for ringing all the time

gillybeandramaqueen · 21/03/2013 02:12

No ovarian cysts to date. I've had 2 scans and all my bloods and checks done and all good so far thankfully.

Thanks so much to all of you for sharing your comments... so reassuring. I haven't yet called the midwife but I will in the morning to ask their advice.

Gilly xxx
