Second time round when did you have your hospital bag packed? How organised were/are you? When did you feel you were 'ready' ?

Yes NoTea will be my second! Thanks a lot... am really excited!

Don't feel organised or ready and 37 weeks today with DC2 (gulp).

I lent Moses basket sheets to Dsis and I'm still waiting for them back....

I only remembered yesterday that I needed to wash pram insert for pushchair as it's been in storage. It's in the washer now.

But worst of all, we still haven't decided on a name - in fact our short lists (don't know if we're having a boy or girl) are still really long.

I am usually pretty organised, so I am getting a bit stressed out.

I luckily went on maternity leave end jan so have had lots of time to get organised. Saying that I only packed my bag last week! I am 39+2!!!
I am ready just not sure baby is :)

weeblueberry · 20/03/2013 11:32

Yeah someone asked the other day if we had our bags packed (am 33 weeks today...) and I just sort of looked at them like Hmm

I think if the baby came in the next couple of weeks my hospital bag would probably be the last thing on my mind. Wink

ButteryJam · 20/03/2013 11:36

Oh gosh, reminds me I need to get my hospital bag packed in the next few weeks ...

NoTeaForMe · 20/03/2013 12:31

Oh, I'm so pleased in not the only one. All our baby things are in the loft so need sorting and washing. Need to get new mattresses for crib and moses basket. Sort through clothes, wash them and see if we need to buy anything particularly.

The biggest thing that's really playing on my mind is working out what will happen to my daughter while I'm in hospital. I'm nearly 32 weeks, have family here the last 3 weeks (staying some with us and some with other family, but nothing is sorted and probably won't be until the last minute) so would like to be all sorted before they come! Doesn't give us very long!

I can feel myself beginning to panic!

Finalised my bag yesterday, on due date Grin. But I knew I'd go overdue because he's back-to-back. Resigned to going well into my tenth month of pregnancy. Again.

worsestershiresauce · 20/03/2013 14:29

I wasn't even remotely organised and got a verbal wrist slap from the midwives at the hospital for having an inadequate hospital bag Grin. For anyone yet to pack make sure you have:

-Vests and sleep suits (pack 3 times the number you think you will need... newborns bring up a lot of mucus on their first few nights)
-a hat

  • a baby blanket
  • a towel
-a lot more maternity pads than you feel you could possibly require. You need to change them very frequently.
  • nipple balm... you'll get a bit chewed if your baby is a hungry one as colostrum is made in tiny quantities
  • Your usual over night stuff, bearing in mind the recovery ward will be stifling hot and you will sweat buckets.

As for the drinks/snacks advice everyone gives, forget it. By the time you are dilated enough for them to even consider admitting you, you will probably be vomiting, definitely not be hungry, and hospital water will be just fine. I couldn't even keep down the fruit juice they brought me, or the glucose tablets DH kept shoving in my direction.

ZuleikaD · 20/03/2013 14:41

If you're going into an MLU you only need a couple of hours' worth of stuff. Smile

Havingkittens · 20/03/2013 15:43

I'm 37 weeks and have got most of the stuff I need, except a holdall to put them in. We're having building work done at home and I can't find anything.

The flat is in chaos, I haven't cleared the space for the baby to sleep in our room and halfway through washing various baby blankets etc the washing machine has just packed up, just as I'm coming to the end of my very small rotation of clean clothes that still fit me.

But it'll all be fine, right? Hmm

worsestershiresauce · 20/03/2013 18:17

It will kittens. We were mid major house refurb and living above the garage and it was fine! Babies don'y need much to start with, just food, warmth and a clean bum.

Havingkittens · 21/03/2013 11:03

I think quite a lot of babies are born into the midst of refurbishment or moving in actually. I'm hoping our work will be done by the weekend so that should be OK. Now just got to sort out the washing machine problem. I think we're going to need that!
