could you try with your GP or local surestart centre? is there a young mums group locally that might have one?

or do you know anyone who has a young baby and would let your DP babysit for a few hours?

you have friends with older children? that could be useful. is your DP friends with any of the parents? could they call over for a chat and sway teh conversation to give him a realistic idea of what life with a new baby is like?

what exactly are the issues you think he/you will face?

SammyFirstBaby · 18/03/2013 22:14

he's already spoken to them and still thinks it will be easy!
its not so much of an issue, just want to see how he will cope. im sure he'll do fine thoughSmile

tbh- those dolls are never as good as the real thing and he wont have the feelings for a doll that will make him get up during the night as he will have for his own baby. i know if it was me and the doll cried at 4am i'd open the bedroom window and chuck it out. if it was my sweet smelling brand new baby son i would be up cuddling him for hours (as i have done) and making the most of those precious moments.

Did you watch the 'Don't Just Stand There...' programme on BBC3 tonight? It is repeated at 12.45 tonight if not. Was quite interesting...

i think mean 'prepare' differently for the arrival of their first baby than women do. whilst for you it is extremely apparent that you are about to become a mother (you can actually feel your baby getting bigger) for men it is not yet here and there is no panic or urgency until you actually go into labour. my EXp seemed so completely unphased by the prospect when i was pg with ds1 and then there was a moment when i looked at him holding our ds for the first time in the hospital and he looked terrified of the tiny little bundle. it was as if someone had planted a random baby in his arms and said "here you go, you're in charge of this for the rest of your life" without any warning. i think it only hit him when he was holding the baby, what it actually meant.
