Going for OGTT, nervous.....

Hi, I'm 33 weeks pregnant and last week at my midwife appoitment I had sugar in my urine for the 1st time. Admittedly I had eaten a sugary cereal about an hour or so beforehand and they just asked me to check my urine a couple of times over the next few days. First thing in the morning it's ok, but if I have eaten anything sugary like jam/chocolate etc....my urine has sugar in it about an hour or so later. If I avoid overtly sugary foods my urine seems clear.
Anyway as there have been 2 episodes of lots of sugar in my urine I have been asked to attend for an OGTT this week...and I'm feeling really nervous!
Any words of wisdom? Does it sound like I'm developing gestational diabetes?
I feel a bit down about it if I'm honest....and am now worrying about both me and the baby and any long term problems which could come of it.
Anyone else had a similar story? How were you diagnosed with gestational diabetes? I've heard mixed stories, one person said that as my early morning urine is clear that it is unlikely, but I'm worried about such fluctuations in my sugar level. And what about diet? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.....

I have no answers, but am being sent for the same test tomorrow for the same reasons! Have you read the GD thread on here? I think the people there would be best placed to answer questions.

I would wait and see what the test results say. A low sugar diet is advised in pregnancy and if you do have GD they will refer you to a dietitian for advice and support along with MW care.

The test itself is ok. Generally they ask you not to eat after 9/10pm and sip water only. They take a blood test, give you a sugary drink they retest your bloods. I took a film to watch (on our iPad) to keep me entertained!

If you know about it, get diagnosed, - you can manage your lifestyle and be healthier too.
I had a OGTT before surgery a few years ago. Advice - bring a book.

Hi well I had my OGTT today...it was ok although I felt pretty tired after the initial sugar rush. I will get the results over the next couple of days, but i am mentally preparing to be told I have GD. This pregnancy has been a roller coaster so far...so I won't be surprised if this is just another thing to throw into the mix. Thanks for the replies anyway ladies!
