Chicken Pox and Pregnancy

I just had to collect my 18mo from CM as she has a rash all over that my CM thinks is chicken pox (and I agree).
I have no idea what to do now - the nhs website says not to see a doctor unless its 'complicated' but shouldn't it be diagnosed?

Also I'm 26wks pg, I had chicken pox as a child so am I or the new baby at risk of anything awful?

If anyone can advise what I need to do I'd be so grateful, I don't want to make a big fuss with the doctor if its not necessary.

TIA

I'm pretty sure you're not at risk if you had it as a child (ring midwife to double check if you're worried)- an nothing you can do for your little one apart from calpol and cuddles - only need doctor if she's really poorly (really high temp, not eating/drinking etc). The positive side is that best your little one has it now - and not when you have a tiny new born as its not ideal for tiny babies to get pox, and last thin you'll need when managing two! Hope she gets well soon

hi this happened to me 3 weeks ago, you can have a blood test to check you are immune but if you know you have had it then you will be fine, id mention it to a midwife tho just so they know .

You need a blood test to check immunity even if you're pretty sure you've had it. This should be today. If you're not immune they can offer you treatment, if you are (v v likely) then you'll be fine.

Your DC doesn't need to see a doctor unless you're worried. If she has a blistering rash that crusts over she has pox! Calpol, piriton and some form of lotion/cream (poxclin, virasoothe, calamine) plus short nails and/or cover hands with mittens at night. Bicarb baths also supposed to be v soothing. Hope she feels better soon.

I wouldn't describe chicken pox as a rash, so may be worth googling some photos of classic cases first just to be sure what you're dealing with.

I work(ed) with children until finishing maternity leave and we had a few bouts of chicken pox (among other things), so I had bloods taken and they told me within 5 days if I was immune. You are likely to be if you had as a child but worth being checked just for peace of mind.
