I had it horribly with DD, completely housebound in the end. I'd love to have a DC2 but terrified of it happening again... Did anybody have it once but not again? Or am I kidding myself that that's posible?! TIA

I had it starting about 6 months with DD1... Not so much housebound but crippling pain at the end turning over in bed, walking around etc..

I'm 25 weeks with DD2 and so far I feel okay and although I felt some pelvic pain after a really long day yesterday, I'm hoping that more rest and being more aware of positions etc and what to expect will help me along!

Didn't get it until 35/36 weeks with DC1 but 18 weeks with DC2 and it started to get painful about a week ago.

It's a lot harder to stay housebound with a 2yr old but like curiousgeorgie said, I'm much more aware of how to sit/sleep and move within my comfort limits that it's fine at the minute.
I might say differently when it's warmer and DD is begging to go to the park 10 minutes walk away every day.

i had it bad with my lg and when fell pregnant this time i asked the midwife if i would get it again and she said it all depends. unfortunately though, i think i have got it :( i am 18w 5d and wake up in pain when turning over in bed, i cried out in pain last night and woke up my partner :( it hurts when i lift my legs up to put on clothes etc xx

Oh god, this is all terrifying! I was (stupidly!) hoping everyone would come on and say 'oh yes, had it really badly first time but nothing at all second time!' Wishful thinking, I know!

My cousin didn't get it the second time round. She got exercises from physio pre pregnancy and carried on throughout. She was on crutches the first time

AlfieBear87 · 21/03/2013 20:57

I had it from 35 weeks with DS1 to the point where I was on crutches and couldn't do anything.

With DS2 I felt niggly pain from about 20 weeks but it has only just got bad yesterday (I'm now 38+2).

Like others have said, I think because you're more aware of it second time round you're a lot more careful with how you move etc and also on not over doing it. I also bought a support belt early on with this pregnancy and wear it as much as I can which I think has really helped.

Good luck with it if you decide to go for it!!

I had pain from 33 weeks the first time and was barely mobile for the last 3 weeks of the pregnancy. It also affected the birth so I was very worried the next time. however , I made sure I rested as much as possible , didn't stand or walk too much and generally took it as easy as possible didn't in the last 3 months, and I was fine. So you could be fine!

First time got it at twenty weeks. Second time at sixteen. Third at about thirteen.

Lovely.

I had it earlier with dc2 but I felt that after my experiences first time around I knew how to handle it and what preventative stuff to do - regular Physio from the start of pg, gym ball chair at work, avoiding certain positions/activities etc. So although I had it for longer and it affected me more in some ways (especially looking after ds1) it didn't actually get worse than the first time. It did take longer to improve after having ds2 though, and is still not quite right now (ds2 is 10mo). Apparently it won't improve anymore until I stop bf as the relaxin hormone remains in your body until then.

I developed SPD after giving birth the first time and it was excruciating for many many months. In fact I remember my son's 2nd birthday being a milestone of recovery at last.

This is my second pregnancy and I had it start up at 21 weeks as a result of not paying heed to keeping my knees closed - it kept me awake all night in agony and took me 3 days to be able to walk without a painful waddle and I was petrified it would be here to stay for the rest of the pregnancy. Luckily I am very careful f it now and treat it with the respect it deserves, and am so far reaping the benefit.
