Has anyone else's skin got worse since they got pregnant?

In my teens I had awful skin but it cleared up by the time I was 16 ish.

Now I'm pregnant the acne has come back. I have a really sore pimple right at the end of my left nostril. It looks like I'm trying to pick my nose but I'm just prodding it. I have squeezed it so should clear up soon.

Last time I was pregnant I had a giant spot right on my mound of Venus. Ugh. I'd forgotten about that.

Yes, my skin is awful when I'm pregnant. I'm now 20 weeks and have lots of painful lumps on my jawline and cheeks, every time one heals, another two pop out.

I was the same when I was pregnant with DS but I thought it had cleared by this stage :/

Excited85 · 17/03/2013 20:58

Yes, yes and yes!! My body skin has gone completely dry, keep slapping on oils and moisturisers, scalp really dry and yet face gone spotty!! Though just to add insult to injury any foundations I put on just cake up as if face is dry... Argh!!!!

JanieLovesCake · 17/03/2013 23:04

oh girls i'm the same... well i got really spotty as soon as i came off the pill...all over my chin and around my mouth and also on my back :( i went to the docs about it as the spots were really getting me down but unfortunately nothing is safe during ttc or pregnancy - i'm now just 4/5 weeks ish. i have tried the freederm range and it seemed to work for a little while but now just as bad as ever. a friend told me that the bio oil is actually good for reducing the redness of spots so i might try that overnight. if anyone finds any miracal cured i'd be delighted to try them! xx

Oh my skin is shocking. I mean aged 14 hormonal spotty. Blackheads, lumps, sore angry red ones! UGH.

I have had on and off acne all my life and had it under control before pergnancy and now its insane! :(
Oh well.....

andadietcoke · 18/03/2013 07:22

Mine was awful the whole times had the implant, and again since getting pregnant. Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish keeps them under control (have been really lazy recently, but started using it again yesterday morning and can already see a difference). Miracle product is Cane and Austin pads but they're £50 for 30 so for desperate situations only. I used the cut them in half to make them last longer!!

Freederm helps a bit, as does sudocrem over night (very attractive look!), the witch hazel stick from boots and the aloe Vera anti blemish night cream is not too bad.
I think these are all safe in pregnancy, but they only help a bit, rather than remove the problem...

Me too Sad When pregnant with DS, I felt like a teenage boy. Now am pregnant again it's all happening again!

Quilty · 18/03/2013 07:59

Yes! Had good skin before pregnancy. Been spotty since beginning of second trimester. My back is the worst area, horrible. Only thing that helps a bit is a good scrub with a gentle soap.

Anyone know if its likely to clear up after birth or do breast feeding hormones affect skin in the same way?

Dolallytats · 18/03/2013 08:26

Me!! My skin is so dry and I have been getting lots of spots-even on my neck, bleugh!! I was never a spotty teenager and I really don't like being spotty now. The dry skin is worse though, it makes me feel really itchy all the time. This is DC3 for me and I don't remember having dry skin with the other two and the spotty stage didn't last this long either (am 22+1).

Yet another reason why this is most definitely the last baby!!

Jojobump1986 · 18/03/2013 08:35

Nope, perfect skin here. Totally blooming.

I have rosacea too so I have bad skin normally but it actually is looking slightly less awful than usual since I took the advice of a MNer & started using E45 with a few drops of tea tree oil in. No idea if it would help with non-rosacea skin but it might be worth a try!

NB, the use of tea tree oil isn't recommended during labour as it may slow contractions. I doubt anyone will be worrying about their skincare routine while contracting though!

notimefors · 18/03/2013 08:48

First time I was pregnant my skin was awful, people kept commenting on it before I wanted to tell anyone the news- "Gosh why has your skin gone so spotty? It's really different to usual! You must go to the doctors to see if something is wrong!"
Second time I was pregnant, nothing. No change. Thank heavens for small mercies.

beckie90 · 18/03/2013 08:49

Me too, I've always had clear skin even in my teens, I've had 2 babys already and never got skin problems, however this pregnancy my skin has gone so dry but then got spots all over my face, chin been the worst bit. MIL keeps saying "cant believe how bad your skin is this time you normally have great skin" Hmm thankyou as if I wasn't down about it before, I am now lol. X

weeblueberry · 18/03/2013 10:34

My skin was never perfect but has got increasingly bad since I got pregnant. I ended up going into Clinique and speaking to the person there who recommended the anti blemish 3 step range. I've been using it for about 3 weeks now and when I wake up I'm definitely seeing a difference in my face. She said to try it for a month and see where we were so I'll keep that up but UGH it's definitely been getting me down. I keep seeing photos of women after they've just given birth and think 'I don't want to look like crap AND have a zitty face' Hmm

Jollyb · 18/03/2013 11:43

Yes I look like I'm 14 again. Can you still buy clearasil??

foxrivereight · 18/03/2013 11:54

Ask your gp for zynerit it is amazing and can be used during pregnancy (afaik)

monal · 18/03/2013 12:12

I had terrible acne for the first 20 weeks but -touching wood- it seems to have gone now.

Kelly1814 · 18/03/2013 14:08

excited85 - i am just the same! i have all these pimples on my forehead and my skin is drier than a desert - foundation is not looking so good these days!

SeriousStuff · 18/03/2013 19:18

Yes! I wouldn't say extremely bad but my face feels very tight and have to keep moisturising. When I get spots (which I never usually did) they're on my back. Eugh! So it seems front is try, back is greasy. I need to spend some time on a spit to ensure even coverage!

SeriousStuff · 18/03/2013 19:18

*dry not try!

fatandlumpy · 18/03/2013 19:30

I am currently a big, fat pizza-face.

... but strangely enough... I actually don't care!

Happygirl77 · 18/03/2013 19:33

My skin was glorious (plus hair, nails, etc) with dd1 and dd2. Glowing and beautiful. Was greasy and spotty and lank-haired with ds - I blame the boy hormones!

Elkieb · 18/03/2013 19:43

I was absolutely covered in spots all over my back and face. Huge ones. My DH took great pleasure in squeezing the worst! I blame boy hormones too. Grin

Daisy299 · 18/03/2013 19:51

I am 14+5 and my spots have been horrendous, especially on my back - really really painful.

Generic tea tree face wash seems to help - Sudocrem doesn't stop them appearing but it really helps to heal them up.
