Are mcflurries ok in pregnancy?

I had one about a month ago and next day was really sick but never thought much about the sick as I was in first trimester and was being sick lots anyway. Last night DH brought one home which tasted delish but today I have been really sick again. So is it coincidence or are we not supposed to eat soft ice cream when pregnant? Won't be having another as I hate throwing up but would be nice to know the rules. MW just told me to use my common sense when it came to deciding on food

I've never seen McFlurries mentioned by the NHS website Grin. But if you think they're making you sick then avoid.

I was told not to have mr whippy type ice cream which I took to include mcflurries and milk shakes etc due to them not being able to clean the pipes of the machines properly so there is a chance of I think listeria.

No to mr wippy style ice cream.

ShowOfHands · 17/03/2013 16:10

Yup mcflurries and milkshakes are a no no because the machines are only switched on in the daytime or something. So the stuff they use to make them is warmed up and cooled down which is a breeding ground for bacteria.

Bleurgh feel worse now but at least I now know. Don't think I got any serious bugs off to check Dr Google but no dinner for me tonight.

Thanks for helping me x

McDonalds flurry machines are stripped down daily and thoroughly cleaned, I would have no qualms about having one from there, however I wouldn't have a 99 from an icecream van.

PandaWatch · 17/03/2013 22:11

Mcdonalds milkshakes and mcflurries are absolutely fine. I'd be amazed if the WHO website said otherwise. Its just dodgy ice cream van ice cream you need to avoid.

PseudoBadger · 17/03/2013 23:00

I hate people who do this but..... I'm an EHO and I would eat a mcflurry - but not a mr whippy from a van.
Mcdonalds are cleaned after service like you wouldn't believe...

I would trust macdonalds. Surely the health inspector stipulates certain rules including cleaning of the machines. If not then they would be looking at a hefty lawsuit!

milkyjo · 18/03/2013 07:37

Just to add WHO covers many countries so the 'rules' may be different elsewhere. I also trust the health inspectors to regulate these things in the UK and perhaps would avoid certain outlets if I was in a different country.

ButteryJam · 18/03/2013 10:53

I've had it a few times during pregnancy and thankfully nothing happened Smile

Wickedgirl · 18/03/2013 12:16

I wouldn't trust McDonald's either.......stear clear of soft, whippy ice creams
