I'm looking to do a 1 day hypno birthing course/workshop after a recommendation. They do it once a month in my area but not sure at what stage to do it. The date that suits best I will be 36 weeks is that too late?

I would be cautious about a one day course. Hypnobirthing requires a series of hypnosis exercises over a period of time. How will that happen in one session? There are lots of techniques to learn too so is it clear which elements of the course are being omitted in order to contain it all in one day? Also are you able to go back and clarify techniques after you have practiced them?

Assuming you can pack all of it in to one day, I think you'd be better off doing the course a month earlier than the 36 weeks so that you have time to practice.

Hope this helps.

I would get in for as many sessions as you can as early as you can so you have as much time as possible to practice. Failing that practice the CDs as much as you can and read as much as you can (there is a book by Mary Mongon and one by Katherine Graves which our tutor has advised us to read both).
One day session will pack a lot in and will certainly be beneficial. We are off to our 3rd session today and even after 7hrs tuition I feel so much more confident in myself, my partner and my baby! Cannot recommend highly enough :)

Hey - I haven't done the course, but have read the Maggie Howell book and have been listening to her CD most nights. I do feel much more relaxed and prepared as a result. The advantage of Maggie Howell is that it's English, not American (if you are UK-based).

Hmmm the course at 32 weeks is fully booked.
The course comes with a cd or mp3 download to practice at home after. DH says its up to me but not sure if I would just be wasting 100pound or if it would help!

You can just get a book and CD from Amazon for around £25...

As other have mentioned, I would be very wary of a day long course. The hypnobirthing association only endorse courses that are at least 12 hours long. I started my 12 hour course at 33 weeks, and it is just incredible. I'm now 39 weeks, and have been reading the Marie Mongan book as well as doing the course. I found my practitioner through the UK hypnobirthing website, 12 hour one on one course for £190.
