Difficulty breathing. Is it the babys position that causes it?

I'm finding if I lay on my back I become very out of breath but the second I turn to my side it's ok.
The same thing is happening now as I'm slouched slightly on the sofa.

Is it the baby that lays on the lungs?

yes, the baby squashes your lungs right up and lying on your back makes it worse

i don't mean 'yes' the baby lies on the lungs! i mean, it's the baby that causes it by squashing them up. they're much smaller capacity than usual when you're preg

It's horrible and I don't like it, lol!

Can it help if the baby moves position then or does this make no difference?

hi nbg - no help here I'm afraid but I'm getting really breathless too, particularly at night - looking at some of the pictures in books, it looks like our lungs are squashed beyond belief!
side sleeping is the way forward........

I try to stay on my side but I always end up waking on my back and then I can't breath!

I can't remember it being this bad with dd. In fact I'm sure it wasn't.

yes its down to the baby's position. that's why in the later stages when the baby's head engages it can help your breathing as it allows lungs to stretch out a bit. your baby sounds fairly high up at the moment. how long you got to go?
