How different is going from one dc to 2?

Lying here slowly freaking out at the change that awaits us. Dc is 25wks in the making and I'm beginning to feel the fear of the pending new baby onslaught.

So how different is going from one to two children?

It is different but nothing to freak out about. Make sure you make the effort to spend quality time with your eldest once the new born arrives. I had 1 then twins! So that was a big differenceGrin!

Hormones, insomnia and 4am = pregnancy madness Wink

I've been relatively composed until now and suddenly it feels bigger than ever before!

I'm still composed but remembering the difficult stuff instead of all the loveliness.

Your 5 year old will be at school all day! I thought you were going to say younger. Op you'll be fine.

laptopwieldingharpy · 16/03/2013 04:27

Its a breeze with grown child!
Just make sure you make time for regular 1-on-1 with the eldest.
And remember not to snap it him/her for no reason when your totally sleep deprived and unreasonnable!

When I first found out I was pregnant with dd2 I remember lying awake one night worrying about how I'd cope with two but really it's fine. I have exactly 2 years between my two and it was a bit hard at first but now that my eldest is at pre school I find it much easier and honestly love having two.

My youngest is now 18 months old and she has chicken pox so we're cuddled on the setee together, praying that she'll sleep soon!!

I've got that age gap and it's lovely :) dc1 wants to help, loves the baby and sings songs/wants to play feed wash etc!
The only downside is lack of patience with hyper dc1 after nights of no sleep. But dh took her out lots :)

I hope so! Ds has woken us up again at some insane hour. This really is one of my concerns. I already have one child that is still mastering sleep. I hope baby is better at it than his big brother.

Dc1 was and still can be a sleep pear. Dc2 appears horrific at the moment. But we're only a few weeks in -it'll get better right??

blurryeyegirl · 18/03/2013 09:15

Pear?! Grin pest.

Meglet · 18/03/2013 09:21

5yr gap sounds fairly civilised.

I have a 22mo gap. The biggest difference was that I started shouting, a lot.

beckie90 · 18/03/2013 09:37

I have 2.4 years between my 2. Also expecting ds3 and there will be 2.4 years between my youngest and the new baby. St first it was a breeze but now there st the ages of 4.3 and 1.11 they fight a lot Haha but as your child is older and at fill time school you will be absoloutly fine. It's fine now tbh they provide a lot of fun :) xx

laptopwieldingharpy · 18/03/2013 12:33

[grin meglet that's the big hurdle isn't it?
and the shouting goes on for the next 5 years

noblegiraffe · 18/03/2013 12:44

I've got a 3.5 year old and an 8 week old. It's been fine so far as the eldest is at preschool so I get time with the baby to nap and you can reason with him so he understands if I'm feeding the baby he needs to wait for attention. He's also independent enough to dress and feed himself, and go to the toilet himself. I reckon those would be the flash points with a smaller age gap.
