Confused about glucose test

Hi, today at my 28 week midwife check I had glucose in urine, the midwife didn't really know what to do which I thought was a bit strange. She called the assesment unit and they told her I had to have a random glucose test, she told me to book a fasting blood test for it. I have done but couldn't get one for nearly 2 weeks, but now have read that she wrote in my notes and says random glucose teat and what levels should be 1 hour and 2 hours after eating.
So is it right that I need a fasting test

a fasting test would probably be appropriate. You fast overnight and then they get you to drink a sugary drink and then test your blood sugars at set intervals afterwards.

A fasting blood test is different to a glucose tolerance test.

A fasting blood test is one where you haven't eaten for at least 2 hours (more hours when not PG) and a GTT is where you fast overnight, have blood taken, drink the glucose drink (eurgh) and then have your blood sampled again to see how your body has dealt with the glucose.

If it was a trace of glucose then a fasting blood test would seem the next logical step. Then if you had a high blood glucose reading afer the fasting test you'd be sent for a GTT.

Was it a first morning pee or one after you'd eaten?

Does your local hospital not have a drop in blood clinic? 2 weeks is a long wait while PG.

Could you try your GP surgery, they may have a nurse/HCA/Phlebotomist who could take a blood sample sooner?

I had eaten a bowl of cornflakes before, I had a later appointment than usual so previously have not eaten before doing a sample. I dont really have any risk factors or symptoms other than being thirsty so I'm hoping Its nothing to worry about but I dont really want to wait 2 weeks plus the time for results as I dont feel I can carry on eating my normal diet for that long if it will be bad for us and if I was to change it would it affect the results? I will call them and see what I can do to have it sooner.
They said if it showed anything I would then go for a glucose tolerance test.

That'll be why, because you'd eaten first. I always have a trace of glucose if I take a sample after eating.

Thanks that makes sense, I am a chocoholic so better not have diabetes
