I am 12+3 (or 13wks depending on whether you go on my dates or scan dates).

I am feeling sick pretty much all of the time. I have had a lot of vomiting too although the vomiting does seem to be getting less frequent.

Its the nausea that is doing my head in. I know I sound a bit dramatic but I just cant get excited about this pregnancy and am starting to feel very negative about it all. I believe a massive part of all of this is the constant nausea, its like its there all the time, sometimes less, sometimes more, but just ALWAYS there.

This will hopefully be 2nd DC, DS is 3yrs 2months, had a mmc last October but fell pg again fairly quickly. Mmc discovered at 10wks and I had been so excited to be pregnant that time, I did have some nausea with that pg but nothing like on this scale. Was totally gutted to have lost that baby and am still angry and upset about it now, but very much wanted to ttc straight away and was lucky to get pregnant quickly.

Anyone reading this with 'proper' problems is just going to think OMG what on earth has she got to moan about, but I am really worried about how down I am starting to feel.

So, one question is, can/will GP prescribe anything to help with the nausea? I know that in theory I should start to feel a bit better soon, but then again this could go on for ages longer.

Sorry for the long and self indulgent post.

They can, and most will. And if you happen across one who won't, go and see another GP. There's a choice of drugs such as cyclizine and stemetil. I was on one drug or another from 7w to the day DD was born. It didn't stop the vomiting for me, but it dropped it from 10x to 2-3x, which was enough for me to carry on with life.

I also wanted to sympathise hugely with how you are feeling. I still have a text that I sent to my DP at about 18w when the sickness wasn't getting better telling him how awful I felt, how low, how lonely, how sad, how much I was hating being pregnant. I wasn't remotely excited. The sickness affects everything in your life and it makes things pretty shit.

You're not the first person to feel like this, you certainly won't be the last, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the way you are feeling.

Please go to the GP and ask for help. I hope you start to feel better soon.

You are not fussing about nothing. I was so nauseous that I ended uo dehydrated with hyperemisis and was in and out of hospital several times in both pg. Like you, i wasn't exited about being pg (even now that my youngest is 17 months old, my first reaction to a pg announcement is "poor you").

Are you able to keep hydrated? I couldn't even drink at some points, but i found melting ice cube in my mouth helped a bit.

Do go and see your GP. They can prescribe various antisickness drugs (though tbh they didn't really help that much with the nausea) stemetil worked for me (enough to get me out of bed and hospital) first pg, but I just threw it up in second pg.

Also, have a look at this site Pregnancy Sickness Support

Managing to keep food & drink down well actually, its just the bloody nausea now rather than the vomiting itselfHmm

Yes, go see them. I wasn't sick once but between 3-17 weeks I had constant debilitating nausea. The GP prescribed tablets - the first lot helped with the nausea but not the dizziness & made the exhaustion worse. The second ones I tried were exactly what I needed & kick-started my recovery.

I'm now 28 weeks & weighed myself this morning. Assuming my scales are working properly, I've put on 3lb so far in this pregnancy. I'm only tiny anyway & based on the expected weight gain for someone of my size by this stage I must have lost over 10% of my body weight due to not being able to eat because of the nausea.

Please don't minimise it or feel like you shouldn't go because other people have it worse than you. Only you can know what effect it's having on you & if you think it's bad then go see someone who can help!

FWIW, I'm not the sort of person who goes to the GP unless absolutely necessary. My usual attitude is that most illnesses will eventually get better without medication. DH insisted that I have a phone consultation so they could call me at a convenient time & I wouldn't be taking up more of their time than necessary on day 3 of me not being able to get more than about 100ml of 7up into myself! I could barely stand up but kept insisting that it was just normal MS & I was being pathetic & millions of other women could cope with it... Obviously, the inability to even drink, let alone eat anything, suggested I wasn't coping!

Stematil (or other name buccastem) helped me far more than cyclizine, though different drugs help different people, obviously. Stematil is very good against nausea though, I just took it again in a d&v bug and it stopped the nausea.
