am 24+2 and looking for some reassurance . caught my bump ( and my boob) on the door handle as i was coming out of the bathroom after my shower this morning. am totally paranoid that i could have done some damage - as far as i can see, there is nothing visible - bruise or red mark or anything - but am really worried i might have hurt him/her as it did hurt at the time. can anyone offer any words of wisdom? I'm also rhesus negative but am assuming what they mean by a blow to the stomach is getting football or something kicked at you?

I very much doubt it.
Presumably you weren't going at very much of a pace if you were in your own home, and the impact would not have held much momentum. Your rib cage would be protecting your fundus which is not much abover your naval at 24 weeks

have a nice cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit and you'll feel much better in half an hour

I did exactly this when preg and im rhesus neg ,it really hurt
I was worried ,you will be fine Grin
just mind your bump when ironing!

Ouch! Olivo, I am not an expert on this, but they generally say that babies are very well cushioned in there. Call NHS Direct if you are concerned, just to put your mind at risk.

DumbledoresGirl · 06/05/2006 12:47

I don't know anything about the rhesus negative thing I am afraid, but I can assure you that the baby is well cushioned and protected inside you and any bump to the outside is unlikely to have done any harm at all. Are you getting regular kicks and other movements? If so, monitor those for a while to reassure yourself that the baby is moving as much as normal.

Don't worry! Pregnanncy is such a time of worry for so many women, but you know very little can go wrong by the time you get to your stage! Smile

thanks for your quick responses everyone - I'm having a sit down now (and a chunky kit kat or two!) to see what movements i get - he/she is usually a bit quiet until later in the day but hopefully the relaxing(?!) and the choc will be a wake-up call.I just can't help worrying.

I think all pg women worry a bit Olivo. I have had 4 and I used to lie down and deliberately prod mine just to get some response back when I thought movements had ceased. Poor things were probably sleeping but I used to prod them or ballance heavy books on them until I got a response! Shock Hope the KitKat is doing the trick.

you'll be ok (the baby, rather). I virtually impaled myself on the knob of our bedstead whilst leaning to reach something, caused a big bruise, but the baby was fine Smile

Hey Olivo

I think what everyone is saying is right - its normal to worry but everything is probably fine! The only thing I would say is being RH neg as well I have been told if I got in a car accident or something of equal impact happened, to at least mention it to a midwife or doctor. (good advice I guess whether you are rh neg or not!) Now as hard as you hurt yourself it probably isnt anywhere near as hard of an impact as they meant when they told me that. Just thought I would pass it on.

But babies have it so good in there!! its like living in the softest duvet ever! Plus the liquid. :)
