Two weeks ago i had a MMC at 12 weeks. It was such a shock as I've 5 dc with no problems.

Im approaching 40 so time is an issue. Dp & I have decided we want to try again. I will wait til AF arrives...we have to wait 2 more weeks until we dtd anyway.

What i am worried about is obviously mc again. The stress of not knowing if i have mc again(There was nothing unusual in my last pregnancy).
Would i be able to request extra scans?

Any advice appreciated, especially if your little bit older like me!

TIA.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I've not experienced it personally, but from people I know and what I've seen on here some NHS trusts will offer you an extra scan however others will only do that if you'd had frequent MMC, so may be worth speaking to your dr? I l

I looked into early reassurance scans and they seem to be around £50-70 so maybe worth considering if you can't get one on the NHS?

Hi. This happened to me last year (MMC at 6 weeks, D&C at 10) and I'll be honest, once you get pregnant again it's hard not to panic and stress (I'm currently 19 weeks, but was a basket case for weeks 8-12, which was when we found out). All you can do is try to stay strong for the baby. A lot of places (even the NHS) will give you reassurance with an extra scan near the start if you experience any unwanted symptoms (I had bleeding from weeks 6-10). Remember once you get a heartbeat from 8 weeks on, it's very unlikely anything will happen, the risk of miscarriage drops to 2-3%, so keep concentrating on that.

unfortunately, there is no way to know whether it will happen or not again, and until you are ok with that, i recommend waiting. Personally, I was ready to face the risk and try again as soon as i was allowed, but it took my OH a few more weeks than that. It is quite rare to have a MMC/MC with no symptoms, so you were very unlucky. I personally recommend getting a scan at 7 weeks, for peace of mind, once you get pregnant again, be it private or public. It won't cure your nerves, but it'll go a way to putting them to the back of your mind.

Thanks. I had a scan at 7 Wks&2days-all appeared normal/ well. Statistically my chances of mc were so low but it still happened.

I think what im hoping for is someone to come along&tell me, do this is& that & u will feel much better!

I plan on having a private early scan anyway. I intend to have the Harmony test as early as possible, anything to make me feel like i am managing the situation as best i can. Im presuming the scans will help!

as someone who likes to be in control & plan, i can totally sympathise. Unfortunately, there is no way around avoiding a miscarriage apart from the obvious things. 99% of the time, they are caused by biological factors outside of anyone's control, so there's nothing you can do to make it more likely to take/not take.

you can control the fear however; (although you may do a bad job of it like i did!), and it sounds like you have thought of some ways to make it easier on yourself next time around. i'll be keeping my fingers crossed for good outcomes.
