Keeping active in last tri - 32 weeks and beyond

After a bleed the other week (baby is fine, I'm fine etc) I've been taking things easy exercise wise. Pre preg was doing 1 or 2 10k runs, spin class or two plus a couple of general workouts with weights in the gym - per week.
Therefore I am used to being very active. Now I'm really having to take things down, but I don't want to give up entirely. What are other fit mums doing or have done. The great thing about being active is that I love my body and I sleep better. It's part of DNA so to speak.

I have got a pregnancy pilates DVD by Lynne Robinson which I'm going to try later, given up on yoga (used to do ashtanga and pregnancy yoga doesn't cut it).

Swim! I don't because I have turned into a slug during pregnancy, but swimming is supposed to be excellent, also aqua natal and walking would work.

I swim 30 lengths twice a wk and walk the dog every day at least once and try and go in the evenings with my partner. Also cleaning feels a bit like a workout at the moment too!!! (35+3)

plannedshock wow - at 35/36 weeks I think any kind of movement is a workout!

I'm also 32 weeks and have just had to stop running, as it felt like my belly needed its own sports bra, and belts didn't help! My doctor said that in the final trimester it's best to keep vigorous exercise to 3-4 shorter sessions a week max in any case, to allow for lots of growth. As well as walking to and from work, I'm swimming once, doing a pregnancy yoga class and then doing a strength session and a cardio session from Sara Haley's Expecting More, which is the best DVD I've found for women who were quite fit before pregnancy (none of those tiny arm lifts with 2lb weights!).

It is a bit frustrating to think it might well be 14 weeks plus before I can go for another brain-cleansing (and bowel-moving!) outdoor run, but am trying to focus on staying flexible and maintaining muscle strength so I am ready for birth and the weeks afterwards nesting with our new DC. I'd also be grateful for any more tips, especially for afterwards!

I'm swimming three times a week and walking the other days (36+2). It also helps that I have an almost-three-year old who keeps me busy.

I must admit to feeling much fitter this pregnancy, probably because I can't lounge around and eat like last time! I feel guilty if DD is stuck in all day so it motivates me to get active!

My MW is particularly pleased about the swimming as it helps with positioning (DD was back to back so I'd like to avoid that).

Hi,

I am 35+3 and have tried to keep reasonably fit through the pregnancy. I walk the dogs every day plus go swimming once a week. I was doing 40 lengths but have just reduced this to 30 as it was getting a bit too tiring.

I also seem to be quite busy cleaning the house at the moment which is really helping!

sunny we will have to swap notes after our babies are born. I've got a pilates DVD which I'll use post-partum. 14 weeks sounds like a long time but it will go quickly With DD1 I managed to jog a bit with the baby in the pram 8 weeks after she was born; I'd had an EMCS (having an ELCS this time round which am not happy about but is for the best).
I was thinking of hiring a spin bike and using it outdoors after post natal check up. Is low impact (unlike running).

I swim twice a week and walk the dog twice a day so keeping quite active!! Have recently developed real swelling in hands and feet though, so walks are getting shorter... But swimming is great because it really takes the weight off your back and bump - so nice to feel light again! Particularly in these last few weeks of pregnancy, it's been a godsend!

Ooh yes, swim! I'm 34 weeks (today!) and I've started swimming. It's wonderful. I feel like a penguin, I waddle on land but am graceful in the water! :)

Had to give up sport pretty quickly after learning I was pg (too tired to go fencing in 1st trimester and couldn't fit in kit by 2nd!) though wasn't as active as op as this was only 2 or 3 times per week max! Have found that keeping up daily cycle commute was fabulous for building exercise into my day and generally lowering stress levels. Am evangelical about this tbh- 39+5 and cycled 10 min to appt with midwife yesterday, much less tiring than walking for the bus. Gp says this will aid pelvic mobility for birth- I do hope so!

Walking - very good for getting baby in the right position...and I just bought a maternity tankini top (tesco £10 with 25% off discount voucher incase of interest) and plan to go swimming this very afternoon ! Can't wait !

scaredbutexcited · 15/03/2013 16:50

I am walking the dog every day and doing a fair amount of cleaning. Also pregnancy pilates (Erin O'Brian) 3-4 times a week. I am 35 weeks now.
Had to stop high impact (zumba/running) at 6 months.

Just starting to find everything a bit more tiring.

For me making sure I do some structured exercise everyday helps keep me motivated, even if it's just 20mins stretches/weights.
