37+1 I'm not allowed to go into labour!
Anyone else had this? It's not painful but very regular tightenings across my tummy, the tightness doesn't go either, just gets a bit stronger.
Is it just BH?
Reassuring words needed Smile

I think you need to pack your bag. Babies don't listen to the rules about when they are allowed to come. Maybe have a nice bath or go for a walk and see what happens? Either way you will be fine :-)

catlady1 · 10/03/2013 17:59

I had this at about 38 weeks, but I'm still pregnant more than two weeks later!

Definitely make sure you have your bags packed though, and call your midwife/hospital for advice if it doesn't stop or they get stronger or closer together.

ElliesWellies · 10/03/2013 18:27

I think you should be prepared - you could be in labour.

giddypants · 10/03/2013 18:27

Thank you, I could cry I'm so scared, just had a bath which seemed to ease it a bit, am I right on thinking that its not real if it eases?

They have started again, minute I sat down

I thought the difference between BH and proper contractions is that real contractions are regular, whereas BH aren't?

ElkiesBrook · 10/03/2013 18:29

have you got to arrange childcare at all?

might be a good idea to get those people on standby

RightUpMyRue · 10/03/2013 18:30

How long have they been going on and how long does each one last? More than about an hour, each one more than about a minute and accompanied by any pain sounds pretty labour like otherwise I wouldn't assume anything yet.

sundaesundae · 10/03/2013 18:31

BH's aren't as painful, don't intensify, don't get closer together and you can talk through them. They apparently start at the top of the bump instead of from the back and work round.

Take some paracetamol and call the labour ward for advice, I've had a week of this and nothing doing, but you could be in early labour.

giddypants · 10/03/2013 18:43

I started timing them at 16:18, and have always been 6 minutes apart lasting on average 1:26 mins not low down pain but a tightening across the bump, not painful can talk through them, just uncomfortable.
My mum is on standby, (only 20 mins away) to look after DS.
Have a ELCS booked in for the 26th

Gah, i feel your pain (well uncomfortable-ness). I've had this for the last 3 weeks. Every time i move for more than around 10 mins i get uncomfortable, bordering on painful, BH with period pains which come every 3-5 minutes, last around 1.5 mins and go on for up to 6 hours. I've been in hospital twice with suspected premature labour and the consensus was i have an irritable uterus. Not fun. If you're in any doubt you should give the labour ward a call. The worst that can happen is they'll monitor you for a bit to see what's going on.

beckie90 · 10/03/2013 20:42

Thats exactly how my labour started. On my due date, afternoon. Every 6 mins quite uncomfortable, next day was accompanied by constant period pain. 3 days later went to get checked I was 2cm. On the 4th day got worse pain and was at every 5 mins. Started to get some blood went in that night, was 3-4cm and not lng

beckie90 · 10/03/2013 20:44

Grrr daft phone.

Not long after turned to every 3 mins but got stuck on 4cm then for 12hr, finally had him on the Friday at 1.52pm. So 5 days after. Although mine never eased off or stopped, they was just not so painful at first although very uncomfy. Good luck xxx

LikeCandy · 10/03/2013 21:10

Hi giddy, have you drunk plenty today? apparently BH can be brought on / made worse by dehydration.

giddypants · 11/03/2013 07:33

I had a lot to eat and drink yesterday I'm wondering if too much food brought them on? tightness didnt stop until 3am and then had very painful trapped windBlush Blush
feel like ive done an ab work out this morning Smile thank you for all your advice x

Be prepared to go in but I had this for several weeks before my first DC. I ended up being induced at 40 weeks because they were stopping me from sleeping and I was exhausted.

IceAddict · 11/03/2013 11:49

I had that for 6 weeks before I had dd even though i had enough fluid because i craved ice, hence the name. Midwife said take 2 paracetamol and if they get worse to call labour ward. So many times i thought i was in labour then they stopped. Good luck Smile
