I am 30 weeks too, and have started to pack my bag, well have got a bag out the cupboard and am thinking about putting stuff in it

God luck with yours when you start

barefootwalker · 07/03/2013 19:27

I did mine around that time because my husband travels for work and I wanted to be able to just ask someone to grab it for me if anything happened (while he was away) rather than having to ask them to pack it.

I don't really see any reason why it can ever be too early if you have somewhere to keep it in the meantime. However there will probably be some things that you can't pack now and will have to put in when the time comes (eg iPod).

Havingkittens · 07/03/2013 19:50

I am 35 weeks and just trying to get stuff organised now. I bought some nursing bras in Mothercare today, and the lady who measured me said that ideally I should be buying them 2-3 weeks before due date as it's less easy to predict at this point what size I will be when my milk comes in. I bought what seemed right according to her measurements today, just in case I get an early surprise arrival but she said that if they don't fit after I give birth I could return them (provided they've not been worn, obviously).

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 07/03/2013 19:55

Around 30 weeks. Then I emptied and re-packed it at 32 weeks :)

sundaesundae · 07/03/2013 19:56

I'm 38 weeks and still not done mine :) I'm gonna go over blatantly so no point doing it yet. LOL I may also be in denial...

RightUpMyRue · 07/03/2013 19:57

I'm 36 weeks and have only just started to put things in a bag today Blush

I'm quite relaxed about the whole thing though Smile

plannedshock · 07/03/2013 20:01

35wks not done it yet, it's on my to do list when I finish work!!!

FattyMcChubster · 07/03/2013 20:12

I packed mine after being in labour for 34 hours and finally going to hospital. First dc and things went slooooowly so it was fine. Wouldn't recommend though, DP thought I was crackers!

DeathMetalMum · 07/03/2013 20:15

Somewhere between 30-34 weeks I think. I went to be monitored for reduced movements (everything was fine) and before I left I threw a few things on the bed so it wasnt left to dp to find everything 'just in case'. I packed my bag properly the next day and wrote a list of what was mising.

MrsSpencerReid · 07/03/2013 20:25

Do it! I went in for monitoring one evening at 34w and didn't leave! Hadn't packed and no one else gets the right stuff!! Good luck Smile

CareerGirl01 · 07/03/2013 20:43

Have put a few things together - turned 31 weeks the other day. Was going to wait but had a scare last week - and was in hospital overnight - made me realised need to be prepared.

laurajane89 · 08/03/2013 10:18

I think i will start gettin it ready now then

I'm 35 weeks and finished mine last week, so 34 weeks. At 25 weeks I met a lady in the doctors who went into labour at 32 weeks both times with her two - she advised trying to think about it around week 30, just incase. I think it's a good idea to at least have a list at 30 weeks with the locations of everything in the house so your DP can find things if needs be.

Yannah2006 · 08/03/2013 11:18

I've had mine ready since about 19 weeks Blush

I had a friend who went into labour at 25 weeks, my SIL went into labour at 34 and DS 1 was born 4 weeks early (they had previously stopped labour at 32 weeks).

Perhaps get the basics together? IMO, there would be nothing worse than a) going into early labour and b) going into early labour and either having to rush around getting things together before going to hospital OR (worse) being in hospital and trying to describe to your DP where everything you need is in the house!

CareerGirl01 · 08/03/2013 11:25

Early is good - as when I stayed in hospital last week my mum put some things together - bless her - which included my best Agent provacateur underwired bra and panties- and my mum is savvy! Obviously there's no way I'll be wanting or able to wear those soon.

Yannah2006 · 08/03/2013 11:41

Thats sweet careergirl - perhaps she thought you'd like a bit of a pick-me-up after birth!?

milkyjo · 08/03/2013 12:17

If you're anything like me I will keep adding things to it that I've forgotten. With DS I forgot to take a hairbrush to hospital and only noticed after I'd had baby, after the bath and I had really long hair. The wards didn't even have any combs and I looked like I'd been dragged though a hedge until 10:30 the next day when DH brought a hairbrush in! I only just remembered to put some cotton wool in yesterday, and I am 39 weeks!

DeathMetalMum · 08/03/2013 12:25

Ha I don't even have a hairbrush in my bag and it is packed! Blush

Jojobump1986 · 08/03/2013 12:29

It's certainly worth putting together anything you don't need before the birth - pack a bag for the baby & pop things like maternity pads etc. in your bag. It's probably also a good idea to make a list of things that need to be in your bag before you leave for the hospital. That way you won't have to live out of a suitcase every time you need something & if something happened that meant you needed to go in quickly before you had a chance to pack properly then you've got a helpful list ready for whoever you delegate bringing your bag to! Much less stressful to be able to tell someone where the list is & let them find things on it than to have to try & think what you might need when you're stressed or have the inconvenience of a worried DP bringing you 5 tops & no underwear or something!

No harm in being organised & packing a bag early but personally I'd prefer to have all my familiar things that I use on a daily basis with me in the hospital & I'd worry if I was taking things out of the bag regularly that I'd forget to put them back again!

Jojobump1986 · 08/03/2013 12:35

I did remember my hairbrush but because I had a cannula in my hand I couldn't do my hair. DH tried to 'help'. I nearly cried when I saw the result, especially since both sets of parents had visited & seen me like that! I was a state anyway, I didn't need birds-nest hair too! Sad I learnt from bitter experience that if you require a drip, always ask them to try & put it in your non-dominant hand first. It's a right pain trying to change a nappy without being able to use your hand properly!

Sorry, irrelevant to the thread but still a handy hint! (Pun intended!) Wink

Around 30 weeks. I put a list on top of anything else that needed to still be added at last minute (phone/camera charger etc). Drove myself to hospital at 35 weeks to get checked and was very glad I could just throw my bag in the car and it was ready to go quickly. Baby arrived 2 days later!
