Can I wear contact lenses during c-section?

Does anybody know??
Silly question I know but I HATE wearing glasses and can never see as well in them as in my lenses. So if I can't wear lenses during section I will be trying to get them in ASAP afterwards!!! But does anyone know if there are any contra indications, perhaps due to the anaesthetic etc?
Thanks to anyone who might know and can advise!

Hi emerald,
I'm the same as you! Hate, hate, hate my glasses, and can't see as well as with my lenses. However I wouldn't wear them if I was having (or there was the possibility) of a GA just in case it took me a while to come round and I ended up with them in for ages. HTH x

During the op won't be an issue I don't think, it's just that as cookie says you might have them in for a very long time with one thing and another and end up with them glued to your eyeballs.

I wasn't allowed to wear mine - something to do with checking pupils at various stages/if anything went wrong. I can't remember how long it was before I put a pair in, sorry!

I wore mine last time as I had emergency section, I'm just not telling them this time he he I don't want speccy first photos with baby

KindleMum · 07/03/2013 18:43

I wasn't allowed to. I wasn't allowed glasses either.

Llareggub · 07/03/2013 18:53

I was specifically told to take them out, in order for the aneathestist to his job properly. Really not worth taking the risk for the sake of vanity!

Fairlygrounded · 07/03/2013 21:20

I was told it was absolutely fine and kept mine in.

noblegiraffe · 07/03/2013 21:28

My pre-op info said to take them out and I think glasses weren't allowed during the op either.

I wore my glasses with DD1 because I dozed on and off after having an epidural. I took my lenses out but m/w didnt mention them at all.
Is it planned, someone at hospital will be able to tell you in advance.

I wasn't allowed to wear my glasses for my cs. MW said I could so I didn't put in my lenses, 24 hour ones I can sleep in, got to theatre and the surgeon said no glasses. Couldn't see a blummin thing! Turns out I could have worn my lenses. Was a bit Hmm about it because they could tell me why no glasses. Surgeons preference probably.

I wasn't allowed contacts at Queen Charlottes, if that's any help

emeraldgirl1 · 08/03/2013 07:32

Thanks everyone!
Will go in wearing contacts and then ask the MW if I need to take them out and put glasses on.
Hope I'm actually allowed one or the other - reading these posts it looks as if I may not even be allowed glasses and I am blind as a bat without either!!! Will all be a terrible blur otherwise which might be nice for the surgical part but not so good when I want to actually see the baby...
