Puffy feet/ankles....

Baby is due in 9 days. I know swelling is extremely common but I've had none at all until yesterday. My feet and ankles ballooned very suddenly. I haven't got any other worrying symptoms (headaches/dizziness etc) but should I let my midwife know about this sudden change?? I don't want to be an over reacting loon! But don't want to ignore anything that might mean complications........
(Swelling has remained despite being elevated since yesterday evening, cannot wear any of my shoes as they won't go on!!)

I'd phone the midwife. I was considered high risk for pre eclmapsia (but didn't have it) and was told to contact hospital if I had any sudden swelling of hands/feet. It's probably nothing but best to be on the safe side.

Swelling should go down if limbs are elevated, if they haven't I would phone your midwife. Pre eclampsia symptoms shouldn't be ignored. Not all symptoms appear, make an appointment and take a sample with you.

Saw midwife, blood pressure good but protein in sample..... Going back tomorrow to keep an eye on things

Holy cow I am so glad I saw this. Am 39+2, feet and hands suddenly swelled up on Saturday, won't go back down despite elevation and have been having really bad headaches and needing to Jeremy eyes shut. I'd just assumed it was because I'm huge now and stressed etc... Going to be calling the midwife tomorrow now!!

God I feel like such an idiot...

Hope it's nothing to worry about, Phoenix, but please doi get checked ASAP.

Good luck to both of you for your impending new arrivals.

FaceCake · 08/03/2013 00:00

Mumma very glad you saw your midwife, now that they're aware you can be assessed properly. Much better to have an eye kept on it and get help if needed.

Phoenix if you're having bad headaches and swelling do make sure that you make an appointment as soon as possible. If you see stars or vomit call your local triage. Do not ignore it. Make sure you take a sample with you so that it can be checked for protein.

Thank you both. Waiting til 8am then calling midwife. Had a terrible night's sleep worrying about it!

Have also realised since then that I've had nausea/felt unwell for the last week, and put on 7lbs in the last 2 weeks Blush I guess amongst the whole host of other awful pregnancy symptoms I just didn't put them together... Hoping all will be okay today, will keep you all updated.

FaceCake · 08/03/2013 10:08

Phoenix hope things go well today, do keep us updated. I've pm'd you.

mamapants · 08/03/2013 10:38

Hope you are both ok. I was induced at 39+2 for this reason. Am sure if you've got this far without problems everything will be fine but always best to be checked out. If blood pressure is high or protein shows up they'll probably dsend you for monitoring. All the best

phoenixrose314 · 08/03/2013 12:03

Had high blood pressure but no protein - was monitored for an hour then sent home and sentenced to bed rest :(

Glad nothing was wrong with baby though, he was wiggling away like nobody's business!! Thank you all for your support, I know it turned out to be ok but so glad I was aware and went to be checked.
