Hip pain when walking

Hi I am 25 weeks pregnant and when I walk my hips are in a lot of pain.

Its not muscular, it feels like joint pain. Maybe like scraping and grinding. When I sit down the pain stops.

I am not sure what this is, or what I should be doing? I know staying active is important in pregnancy, so should I keep walking, or stop because of the pain?

Should I see anyone about this or just suck it up? I don't see the point in seeing someone if they are just going to say "meh, your pregnant", but if there is something I should be doing then I would prefer to know as I don't want this to continue after pregnancy.

Anyway, I would love to hear what your experiences are.

Thank you!

It could be sciatica or pelvic girdle pain, either of which are pregnancy-normal. Good news is they both go away after the birth.

This is completely normal in pregnancy and you can go ti your midwife to be referred for physio. it sounds like spd or pgp and in my experience...3 kids 4th on the way the pain goes away straight after having your baby. I wore a lovely support belt which really helped the physio can give you one normally.

Btw this is your bodys way of preparing to give birth, lots if things need to loosen and stretch and we feel the pain!!! But it is totally worth it when you have a lovely newborn to hold :)

Thank you! Yep I know it will be all worth it Smile
I can totally put up with it, it is more I don't know if I should continue with my walks or stop..? I don't want to do any damage to my joints. If the medical advice is just to keep on walking through the pain i'll do that, if not I'll stop. Just not sure what to do and don't see a midwife/doctor for another month.

Thanks again!

Make an appointment to see them, they can advise on pain relief and wether you need a support belt/tubigrip round your belly to help take some of the weight off your pelvis. I imagine they would advocate keepign mobile little and often :)

Hi, sorry to jump on the thread... I'm 39 weeks today and I've had the same thing but it only started yesterday, really bad aches and pains in my legs and pelvis. Does spd/pgp sometimes happen this late??
