Measuring a week earlier than dates

Had a scan yesterday, when I should have been 6 weeks. I was only measuring 5 weeks, and although that fits in with when CB Digi changed from 2-3 to 3+ I'm now freaking out that there is something wrong. The doc was not v optimistic, although there is nothing visibly wrong, it's just a bit smaller than my dates.

So is it possible I ovulated late (I wasn't tracking my cycle), or is it all likely to go wrong. Have any of you measured small at the beginning and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy?

It is so hard to tell before 7-8 weeks. i had a scan when i knew for sure i was 6+4 (tracking cycle) and they dated it 4 days less. He is currently decorating the dining room with his breakfast :) If you were not tracking then a few days out is perfectly feasible. There is absolutely no way of telling one way or the other at this stage. Did they see a yolk sac yet? That is always a positive sign early on. What date did you first get a bfp?

There's a yolk sac. Got positive two weeks ago on the Monday, when I should have been 4 weeks. Told me to go back in 2 weeks to see if there is any development.

Was the positive a 1-2 or a 2+? If it was still a 1-2 then I reckon there is no reason to assume you didn't ovulate a few days late. Yolk sac is good news as there can't be a yolk sac without an embryo.

It was a 1-2, turned to 2-3 on the Saturday then 3+ a couple of days ago. So the scan tied in with what CB Digi was saying, it just means i must have ovulated a week late. It's just the doc was really not v optimistic given my dates so now I'm freaking out.

i dont think a doc usually is optimistic this early on... my gp wont even comfirm a pregnancy til bout 10 weeks... think its just cos they cant be sure what happens in early pregnancy so they dont like to get their patients' hopes up... its just an ethical thing they do i think...
dont let it worry you too much, my 3 always measured a few days to a wk smaller early on, then caught up in the 3rd trimester n whacked the weight on Grin

What is your usual menstrual cycle? If you are usually longer than 28 days then it is hardly surprising that you are not measuring six weeks yet. I think if the scan agrees with the Evil Blue Spend Stick then try not to assume the worst. Also if it turned from 2-3 to 3+ exactly a week apart then that means that at least in that week, hormones went up as they should.
I think docs don't like to get anyones hopes up at that stage. Even when I had a 6 week scan that showed a HB they are careful to say that it is early still esp if you have history of MC like we do. And CB can only tell you so much - the 2 mcs I had, CB went up as it should in the first couple of weeks.

But anyway, i think you have nothing particular to worry about at the moment. The scan matches your dates according to your pregnancy tests. Did you notice any pant snot during the month? I have everything crossed that you will see a little tiny alien-like person on the screen in two weeks time. It's impossible not to freak out as I know too well myself.

My early scans have never been accurate. I had a scan at 7+5 by lmp (although i knew I would be a few days less, as I hadn't DTD no were near my usual day 14 ovulation) the scan put me at 6+5 I was shocked, knew I didnt ovulate that late. Anyway my dating scan put me only 3 days back which o knew it would. Dating scans are at 10-13wks cause thats when there the most accurate xx
