At my antenatal class today, she covered water's breaking... She said when you ring the hospital, they'll ask you what colour they were (clear or green)?

I just wondered, do they expect you to have a pad in during the end of your pregnancy? Because how else are you going to tell? If you're water's go in a gush, and then you put a pad in, do you carry on leaking? Really confused, but forgot to ask by the time she'd finished the talk....

Your waters might break in a trickle or a gush. Obviously if its just a trickle its prob fairly easy to tell. Even if they break in a gush like mine did water still keeps coming for quite a while afterwards. Mine convieniently broke on the loo but I soaked endless pads on the way to hospital.

P.s mine weren't clear or green but initially a gush of bright red with blood then pink. Best to get checked straight away if there's blood.

Mine broke and it had meconium in it. I showed mw my knickers as I didn't leak/gush after that.

Or they won't break! My dd was born in her waters Grin but I remember with ds they broke on an examination. You won't know until labour happens. Sometimes it's loads and other times its just a trickle.

so just take your knickers in if you haven't got it on a pad then? x

I did wear a pad near the end as I was worried in case they broke in public. They actually broke in the middle of the night with a real movie style gush all over the bathroom floor! They were definitely clear. I think your body keeps producing amniotic fluid after they've broken so I just kept on leaking through the whole labour. Sometimes you get to hosp before they break if you're having strong enough, regular contractions.
You'll be fine and you will somehow onow what to do when it does all start.

You will almost certainly know straight away when your waters break. Mine went while I was on the loo (conveniently) I stood up and realised I was still weeing, sat back down quickly and realised after a minute or so that this was a really really long wee actually, and it was coming from the wrong hole. I put a pad on then and sat on the loo for about another 20 minutes until my piles started hurting, leaking the whole time. After that it was trickles and occasional gushes for the next hour or so until I got to the hospital when it slowed right down.
