When do I go to the docs about my nausea/vomitting?

Last pregnancy I stupidly struggled through at work, despite having to throw up numerous times on the drive to and from work, throw up numerous times while at work, and then lie flat on the sofa all evening with a bucket beside me.

I cannot do that this time as I need to be at least a little bit "present" in the evenings for DD. I am a secondary school teacher with exam classes though, so have huge amounts of guilt, and will not be popular if I get signed off sick!

But I'm 6 weeks now, and I think partly due to the rubbish sleep I get (thanks DD), I feel constantly exhausted and nauseated. Any physical effort like hanging the washing out leaves me struggling not to vomit. I already work part time, and days when I am at work, the evenings are just dreadful.

I don't actually vomit more than once a day (so far) but the exhaustion and extreme nausea (unless I am actually eating) are pretty bad.

So... if I go to the docs, he's just going to tell me to suck it up and deal with it, isn't he?

Not necessarily,I would go!There is medication you can safely take if it is really bad and there is always the chance of getting signed off sick for a week or so if you are really struggling.Sounds like your morning sickness is pretty bad and it's harder when you've got another child to look after too.

I suppose I think I have to be throwing up constantly and not keeping anything down to justify getting signed off.

I coped with a late parents' evening surprisingly well - but the next day I just felt dreadful :(

Go to the doctors! I went at 6 weeks and got anti-emetics which make a huge difference even though I wasn't vomiting constantly. I found myself retching a lot, feeling awful and having to work hard to avoid being sick and if I got tired/didn't eat every 90 mins/smelt something bad I would end up actually vomiting. I saw a really sympathetic GP who, as soon as I described how hard I was finding work, prescribed pills which don't solve it totally but make it much more manageable. In my first pregnancy where the sickness was actually much worse, I saw a less helpful GP who left me feeling like I was fussing about nothing and then by 12 weeks I was in hospital with dehydration, wishing I'd insisted on help earlier. So I would definitely say go, make it clear how difficult life is with the sickness and don't suffer unnecessarily. Hope you feel better soon!

I would go to the doctors. I was in a similar position to you earlier in my pregnancy (nauseous all the time, but only throwing up once or twice a day) and only took off two days due to sickness, once when a bad cold tipped me over the edge, and once being the day of our work's Xmas do when I knew the office would not be operating as usual. The rest of the days I felt utterly shocking but compelled myself to go to work because I didn't want to be seen as taking the piss.

Anyway, flashforward a few months, and physically I feel great ... but I am still sorting out the utter shitstorm I created during the time I spent 'working' through morning sickness. Honestly, I find some of the mistakes, and the only way I can explain them is that a baboon was sitting at my desk while my head was down the toilet. I really wish I had just gone to the doctors and told him I wasn't coping instead of trying to work when I wasn't capable of concentrating.

I'm a legal secretary which makes it particularly mortifying. Even tiny mistakes cost money :-O

So yes - go to the doctor!!

PS. Hope you start to feel better soon :)

Go to docs. I had experienced nauseau and vomiting too much on my 2nd month. I had even resigned but was not allowed. But, I vomit 115-18 times from 3am till 9am on my last day from work and the Manager saw me and finally accept the resignation I had given in my supervisor. When I'm already out of work, I had even needed 2 months before I had feel okay though in the next months I had been experiencing nausea and I always inform my docs about it and she had even doubled the dose of my folic acid on that time and it work for me. Ask for prescription first before you take any medicine. Goodluck! Hope you feel better as soon as possible.

Thanks everyone. I just don't want to go and be thought of as a bit of a fraud as I'm not throwing up that much.

Elderberryspokes oh dear! :(

My advice from experience is to go to the doctors now.
I'm now 33 weeks but from about 5-6 weeks I was feeling generally nauseous and had food aversions but not vomiting. I retched all the way round taking my dogs for a walk one day because there were lots of slugs around.
At about 7 weeks the nausea became gradually worse, until I could not eat or drink a thing without throwing it up... I was diagnosed with severe HG and was unable to work for 4 months. I was constantly throwing everything I consumed up for 10 weeks.
Get early treatment and nip it in the bud. The Hgc levels is what makes you feel sick and they won't peak until about 12 weeks then will slow down.
All the best xxx
