Thrush at 36 weeks pregnant - What to do?

Good morning,

I am currently 36 weeks pregnant and have got the dreaded thrush.. It started a couple of weeks ago with some light itching (when I hoped it'd just go away) but it's now at the stage where my discharge is white and thicker. Sad I've spoken to my doctor and he's prescribed Canesten cream and a solid pessary but I'm afraid to use it.. This is my first baby and I've been so careful not to take/use any kind of medication and I'm really apprehensive about inserting a pessary at this stage. I have done the silly thing of reading forums about it and some people are saying that their doctor either wouldn't prescribe it or they'd been advised not to use the applicator...!?! I really don't know what to do. I know thrush can't harm the baby if it's left but I'm aware that it can be passed on to your baby in their journey down the birth canal.. What should I do? Has anyone else had similar concerns or am I just being paranoid?!?

Insert with a finger rather than applicator & then you'll not push it in further than feels ok.

It's fine, I used one at a similar stage. The labour ward gave it me after some spotting caused by thrush. Don't use the applicator though. Cleared it up straight away.

The pessary is absolutely fine to use, just don't use the applicator. Cream also fine. It's the oral tablet you can't have. I have been plagued by thrush this pg & have had the pessary/cream numerous times (now 33wks). You have my sympathies, its a nightmare.
